Alongside the premium Vande Bharat sleepers, the Amrit Bharat Express offers another promising option for travellers. These non-AC and sleeper-class trains utilise innovative push-pull technology, where locomotives are placed at both ends of the train. This setup allows for much faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing journey times and eliminating the need for locomotive reversals at junction stations. The first services were launched in late 2023, and the network has been expanding rapidly since. With a focus on affordability, the Amrit Bharat trains are making travel on long-distance routes like Darbhanga-Anand Vihar and Bengaluru-Malda more accessible and efficient for everyone.
Key Routes and Future Plans
The focus of these new services is on high-demand corridors that are popular for both business and leisure travel. Western Railway has already proposed Vande Bharat sleeper services for several routes from Mumbai, with the Delhi corridor being the top priority. Similarly, the South Western Railway is anticipating the launch of a Bengaluru-Mumbai service. Other proposed routes include Tatanagar-Varanasi and Shalimar-Mumbai.
