The New Rule Explained
Effective September 15, 2026, Indian passport holders can enter Thailand and stay for up to 30 days for tourism purposes without needing to apply for a visa beforehand. This update is part of a broader change in Thailand's immigration policy. Previously,
a temporary 60-day visa exemption was in place. This has now been replaced by a standard 30-day visa-exempt stay for tourists from India and 59 other countries. It is important to note that this policy is strictly for tourism. The Thai government has specified that the exemption cannot be used for employment or other non-tourist activities.
Essential Documents for Entry
While you no longer need a pre-approved visa for a short trip, you still need to meet several entry requirements. Immigration officials will expect you to present a few key documents. First, your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in Thailand. You must also have a confirmed return or onward ticket showing you intend to leave the country within the 30-day period. Proof of accommodation, such as hotel bookings, is also required. Furthermore, all visitors must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before arriving. This is a mandatory electronic form for all foreign nationals.
Proof of Funds and Other Conditions
One crucial requirement that travellers must not overlook is the proof of sufficient funds. According to advisories, Indian tourists using the visa exemption facility must be prepared to show they have at least 20,000 Thai Baht (THB) per person in cash. This is to ensure visitors can support themselves financially during their stay. It’s recommended to have this amount ready, as immigration officers may request to see it upon arrival. Each member of a travelling group should carry their own required documents and funds individually. Adhering to these rules ensures a smooth and hassle-free entry process.
