The Weekend Rule: Saturdays and Sundays
Across all states, banks follow a standard weekend schedule. They remain closed on all Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. In July 2026, this means all bank branches will be shut on July 11th (Second Saturday) and July 25th (Fourth
Saturday). The Sundays for the month fall on July 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th. These six days are nationwide closures, applicable to public sector, private sector, and cooperative banks alike. Planning your essential visits outside of these dates is the first step to a hassle-free month.
July 6: MHIP Day in Mizoram
The first regional holiday of the month falls on Monday, July 6th. Banks in Mizoram will be closed to observe MHIP Day. This day honours the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the state's largest and most significant women's welfare organisation. If you have banking business in Aizawl or other parts of Mizoram, be sure to complete it before this date or wait until Tuesday.
July 9: Beh Deinkhlam in Meghalaya
Mid-week, banks in Meghalaya will observe a holiday on Thursday, July 9th, for the festival of Beh Deinkhlam. This is a major annual cultural and religious festival celebrated by the Pnar people, particularly in the Jaintia Hills region. The festival, whose name translates to "chasing away the plague," is a vibrant event invoking blessings for a good harvest. Residents in Shillong and other parts of the state should plan their bank visits accordingly.
July 16: Ratha Yatra, Harela, and Kang
Thursday, July 16th, marks a day of significant festivals in three different states, leading to bank closures. In Odisha, it is the day of the world-renowned Ratha Yatra (Chariot Festival) in Puri. Simultaneously, banks in Uttarakhand will be closed for Harela, a regional festival celebrating the monsoon and new harvest. In Manipur, the day is observed as Kang (Rathajatra), the traditional chariot festival of the state. If you are in Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Imphal, or surrounding areas, your local bank branch will be closed.
July 17-22: A Series of Regional Observances
The third week of July sees a string of holidays specific to the northeastern states. On Friday, July 17th, banks in Meghalaya will be closed again to commemorate the death anniversary of U Tirot Singh, a revered Khasi freedom fighter. The following day, Saturday, July 18th, is a holiday in Sikkim for Drukpa Tshe-zi, a Buddhist festival celebrating the day Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon. A few days later, on Wednesday, July 22nd, banks in Tripura will be shut for Kharchi Puja, a week-long festival worshipping the 14 ancestral deities of the Tripuri people.
How to Manage Your Money on Holidays
While bank branches may be physically closed, it doesn’t mean you are cut off from your finances. Digital banking services are your best friend during these holidays. Internet banking, mobile banking apps, and UPI (Unified Payments Interface) will remain fully operational 24/7 for transfers and payments. ATMs will also be available for cash withdrawals and deposits in most locations. However, it's wise to withdraw cash a day or two in advance, especially before a long weekend, as ATMs can sometimes run out of currency. For non-urgent needs like cheque deposits or applying for a loan, plan your visit on a working day.
