On Sunday, August 2nd, the grounds at IDB, Durgapura transformed into a haven for pets and their owners. Organized by the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), the Mega Pet Carnival was designed as a massive on-the-spot registration camp for dogs and cats.
This wasn't just a bureaucratic exercise; it was a full-fledged event attracting thousands of residents. The goal was to make the newly mandated pet registration process not only easier but also an engaging community experience, combining essential services with a day out for the city's four-legged residents.
The Perks That Made It 'Mega'
So, what made this registration drive so hard to ignore? The JMC packed the day with incentives. Every pet owner who came to register could avail a host of benefits, including free anti-rabies vaccinations, health check-ups, and deworming services. Beyond the health perks, attendees received free goodies, pet food hampers, and even personalised metal collar tags for their companions. One of the biggest attractions was a unique 8x4-foot pizza prepared especially for dogs, creating a memorable highlight for many. The event also had a significant welfare component, with an adoption drive that successfully found homes for more than 50 stray dogs.
The Deadline You Can't Miss
The fun and freebies all served a serious purpose: encouraging compliance with a new city rule. The JMC has made it mandatory for all pet dogs and cats to be registered by September 30, 2026. After this deadline, owners of unregistered pets could face a hefty fine of up to ₹5,000. The initial registration fee is set at ₹1,000 plus GST for the first year, with an annual renewal fee of ₹500 plus GST thereafter. The carnival was a strategic move to kickstart this 60-day registration window, and it worked—over 2,000 pets were successfully registered at the event.

If you couldn't make it to the carnival, there's no need to worry. The primary goal of the initiative is compliance, and the JMC has ensured the process is accessible. Officials have highlighted a newly upgraded online registration portal that allows pet owners to complete the entire process in less than five minutes from the comfort of their homes. To register online or in person, owners typically need to provide their own identification, a photograph of their pet, and a current vaccination card. While the carnival provided a fun, hands-on way to get it done, the digital option ensures every pet owner can meet the September 30 deadline without hassle.
Building a Safer, Rabies-Free Jaipur
This registration drive is part of a larger vision for Jaipur. According to JMC officials, the core objective is to improve public health, create a comprehensive database of pets, maintain vaccination records, and move towards making Jaipur a rabies-free city.
