Continuous rainfall has lashed Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad, leading to chaotic conditions for commuters. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts, warning of more rain and thunderstorms. The downpour has been significant, with
some areas receiving 'heavy' rainfall, overwhelming civic infrastructure and leading to submerged roads. Authorities, including the Gurugram district administration, have even advised companies to allow employees to work from home to avoid the gridlock and allow for urgent repair work. Flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport have also been affected, with multiple flights diverted due to the bad weather.
Delhi's Waterlogging Hotspots
In Delhi, numerous key stretches are submerged, leading to bumper-to-bumper traffic. Commuters have reported severe waterlogging and long jams at traditional trouble spots. Areas including the Zakhira underpass, Bhairon Marg, and stretches near the New Ashok Nagar Metro Station are badly affected. Parts of Lutyens' Delhi have not been spared, with water accumulation reported on Bishambar Das Marg and around Parliament Street. Other significantly impacted areas include Connaught Place, where parking lots were submerged, Sangam Vihar, where residents were seen wading through waist-deep water, and key roads like Mathura Road and the area near AIIMS. The traffic police have been active in managing the flow, but commuters are advised to expect significant delays.

Gurugram, often called the Millennium City, has been hit particularly hard, with just an hour of rain leading to widespread inundation. The district administration reported nearly 70 mm of rainfall, paralysing major arterial roads. Key chowks such as Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, and Hero Honda Chowk are severely waterlogged. Stretches of NH-48, especially near Narsinghpur, are choked, and other major routes like Sohna Road, Old Delhi Road, and Mehrauli Road are experiencing long traffic snarls. Underpasses, including Naharpur, have also been flooded. The situation has prompted authorities to issue a work-from-home advisory for offices and schools to reduce non-essential traffic.
Condition in Noida and Ghaziabad
The satellite cities of Noida and Ghaziabad are also grappling with the effects of the downpour. In Ghaziabad, heavy spells have led to waterlogging across major roads, especially on the Delhi-Saharanpur Road in Loni and near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9, causing significant traffic congestion. An auto-rickshaw was reported to have overturned on a waterlogged stretch in Ghaziabad, highlighting the dangers posed by submerged potholes. Noida has also seen its share of disruptions, with waterlogging reported in several sectors and traffic movement affected on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Commuters travelling between Noida and Delhi, particularly around Kalindi Kunj, should brace for delays.
