The design of any great train journey begins with its path. The Surat-Udaipur City Vande Bharat Express will traverse a distance of approximately 690 kilometres, creating a vital link between South Gujarat and Southern Rajasthan. According to the approved
plan by the Railway Board, the route is designed to serve multiple key commercial and transit points. The train will make nine strategic stops at Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar. This selection of stops is intentional, providing direct connectivity to important industrial towns and suburban centres, thereby maximizing the train's utility for a wide range of passengers beyond the two terminal cities. This route effectively extends the existing premium train network, replacing the shorter Udaipur-Asarva service to create a more comprehensive corridor.
Engineered for Speed and Punctuality
A key element of the journey's design is its efficiency. The Vande Bharat Express is engineered to cover the 690-km distance in about seven and a half hours, a significant time-saving measure for travellers. The train, numbered 26903/26904, is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 160 kmph, although its operational speed will be governed by track conditions. The schedule has been crafted for convenience. Train 26903 is planned to depart Surat at 6:10 AM, arriving in Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. The return journey, train 26904, will leave Udaipur at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. This timetable is designed to suit both business travellers who can complete their work and return, and tourists looking to maximize their daylight hours. The service will run six days a week, excluding Tuesdays, ensuring consistent availability for commuters.
A Superior Onboard Experience
The design of the journey extends far beyond the route and schedule; it encompasses the entire passenger experience. The Vande Bharat Express is renowned for its modern amenities. Passengers travel in air-conditioned chair cars (CC) or executive chair cars (EC), which feature reclining and, in the case of EC, revolving seats.
