For instance, instead of “What are the causes of the French Revolution?” try “Act as a historian. Ask me questions that will help me understand the main causes of the French Revolution.” This flips the script, putting you in the driver’s seat. The AI becomes a guide that prompts you to connect ideas, rather than a machine that simply delivers facts. This interactive approach forces you to build your own reasoning, uncover your own solutions, and develop a deeper understanding that lasts long after the study session ends.
Become a Master of the Prompt
The quality of an AI’s output is directly tied to the quality of your input. Vague questions get vague answers. Learning to write precise, open-ended, and iterative prompts is a critical skill in itself. Don't just ask for a summary. Ask the AI to adopt a persona, like a critic or a debate opponent. Once you have that raw material, your job is to take over the higher-order thinking: organising the structure, developing your unique argument, adding personal insights, and crafting the final narrative. Always start with your own attempt or outline before turning to AI. This ensures you have your own ideas to compare, critique, and build upon, which is where real learning happens.
Turn Your Notes Into a Personalised Quiz
One of the most effective ways to study is through active recall—testing yourself on what you know. AI makes this incredibly easy. Instead of passively re-reading your notes, copy and paste them into a chatbot and ask it to create a quiz.
