In December 2024, it was reported that Siddharth Anand, who directed SRK's comeback blockbuster 'Pathaan,' would take over as director. The film is reportedly inspired by the 1994 French classic 'Léon: The Professional'.
A Royal Cast and an Epic Scale
‘King’ quickly became one of the most star-studded projects in recent memory. While the core of the film is the dynamic between Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, an impressive ensemble cast was assembled, reportedly including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Rani Mukerji. This marks another collaboration between SRK and Padukone, one of Bollywood's most celebrated on-screen pairs. Reports also suggest the film will be mounted on a grand scale, with a massive budget to accommodate its international shoot locations and complex action sequences designed by Anand's team.
From Pre-Production to a Bumpy Shoot
Principal photography reportedly began in May 2025, with schedules planned across Mumbai and international locations like Warsaw and Gdańsk in Poland. The film's title was officially unveiled in November 2025, on Shah Rukh Khan's 60th birthday, confirming a 2026 release. The release date was later locked for December 24, 2026, positioning it as a major Christmas holiday event. This announcement came amid a crowded Hollywood schedule, with 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune: Part Three' slated for release just a week earlier on December 18.
