In a city that never shies away from the spectacular, Dubai is adding another glittering attraction to its list. Reports confirm a 24-carat gold walkway is set to open in the city's Gold District, offering a new layer of opulence.
A Golden Path in the City of Gold
Dubai is preparing to
launch what it calls the world's first and longest 24-carat gold walkway, located in the Deira district. The project was announced by officials from the Dubai Gold District, with an expected opening before the end of 2026. According to Rashid Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the district, the walkway could be ready to welcome visitors within the next two months. While specific details about the walkway's exact length and construction have not been fully disclosed, the announcement promises a unique experience for residents and tourists, allowing them to literally walk a golden path. This attraction is designed to solidify Dubai's reputation as a global hub for both tourism and the gold trade.
The New Dubai Gold District
The walkway is the showpiece of the recently launched Dubai Gold District, a major development by Ithra Dubai that opened in January 2026. This new hub is not a replacement for the famous, traditional Gold Souk but an expansion and modernization of the entire area. The district aims to be an integrated destination for the entire jewellery industry, bringing together over 1,000 retailers, wholesale traders, bullion investors, and artisan workshops in one place. The idea of a 'Gold Street' was part of the original launch announcement, described as a street incorporating gold into its construction to attract visitors. The walkway appears to be the first major realisation of that initial promise.
More Than Just a Tourist Spot
The golden walkway is a key part of a broader strategy to boost the district's commercial appeal and reinforce Dubai's economic ambitions. Since the beginning of 2026, the Dubai Gold District has seen a 20 percent increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15 percent rise in new jewellery and luxury watch stores. The project is also a significant milestone for the Dubai Economic Agenda, known as D33, which aims to double the size of the emirate's economy over the next decade. By creating such a high-profile attraction, Dubai is drawing global attention to its thriving gold market, which is already one of the largest in the world.
What Visitors Can Expect
For tourists, especially the many from India who have a deep cultural connection to gold, the walkway promises to be a major draw. Located in historic Deira near the Dubai Creek, a visit can be combined with other traditional experiences. Visitors can explore the hundreds of jewellery shops in both the old souk and the new district, take a traditional 'abra' boat ride across the creek, or wander through the nearby Spice Souk. While the experience of walking on gold is the main attraction, its location roots it in the city's rich trading history. The launch comes at a perfect time for winter travel, as the cooler months are ideal for exploring this historic part of the city on foot.
