Introducing the New Daily Express
Indian Railways has officially approved the introduction of a new daily express train connecting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Sawantwadi Road in the Sindhudurg district. This move is seen as a major step towards strengthening
the transport infrastructure in the region. The service, designated as Train No. 15087 from Mumbai and Train No. 15088 for the return journey, will cover the 510-kilometre route daily, providing a reliable and convenient option for thousands of passengers. While an official launch date and a detailed timetable are expected to be announced shortly, the approval itself has generated significant excitement among frequent travellers on this busy corridor.
A Route Designed for Deep Connectivity
Unlike some superfast trains that bypass smaller towns, this new service is designed for comprehensive regional connectivity. With 22 commercial halts planned along the route, the train will link Mumbai with key destinations across the Konkan. Major stops include Dadar, Thane, and Panvel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, before proceeding through Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, and the district headquarters of Ratnagiri. Further south, the service will provide access to important towns in the Sindhudurg district like Kankavli, Sindhudurg, and Kudal before terminating at Sawantwadi Road. This extensive list of stops ensures that the benefits of the new service are distributed widely, improving access for residents in numerous smaller towns who rely on rail for travel.
