Why the Major Route Changes?
The disruptions are a result of essential infrastructure upgrades planned by the West Central Railway. Specifically, pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking work is scheduled for the Bina-Agasod section to facilitate the connection of a third railway
line. This kind of technical work involves modifying the complex signalling and track-switching systems that guide trains safely. While these upgrades cause temporary inconvenience, they are critical for increasing capacity, improving the punctuality of services, and ensuring safer train operations in the long run. The work is scheduled to conclude around October 15, after which services are expected to return to their normal schedules.
Bhopal to Howrah and Dhanbad: The Key Diversions
The headline services connecting Bhopal to eastern India are among the most impacted. Train No. 13025, the Howrah-Bhopal Weekly Express, will be diverted on its journey dated October 12. Its corresponding service, Train No. 13026, the Bhopal-Howrah Weekly Express, will follow a diverted path on October 14. Similarly, the recently launched Bhopal-Dhanbad Tri-Weekly Express (Train No. 11631) will be rerouted on October 9, 12, and 15. The return service, Train No. 11632 from Dhanbad to Bhopal, will use the same diverted route on those dates.
The New Paths: Itarsi-Jabalpur Route
For the affected dates, these trains will not run on their usual path. Instead, they will be rerouted via Itarsi Junction, Jabalpur, Katni South, and New Katni Junction. This is a significant change that will add considerable distance and time to the journey. Passengers on these services will bypass several regular halts, including Bina Junction, while passing through a different set of stations. Other trains, such as the Bhopal-Singrauli and Bhopal-Chopan expresses, will also be rerouted along this same Itarsi-Jabalpur corridor on specific dates in October.
Wider Impact: Over a Dozen Trains Affected
The engineering work at the Bina and Agasod yards will impact a total of 17 train services. This extends beyond just the Howrah and Dhanbad lines. For example, the Rewa-Rani Kamalapati Rewanchal Express (12185/12186) will also run via the Itarsi-Jabalpur route between October 8 and 14. Meanwhile, services heading towards Rajasthan, such as the Bhopal-Jodhpur Express (14814), will be diverted through Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Maksi, Nagda, and Kota for the first half of October. This broad impact means that passengers traveling in almost any direction from Bhopal could face alterations to their schedule.

Given the scale of these diversions, passengers with bookings on these or any connecting trains in October are strongly advised to verify their train's status before starting their journey. You should check for updates closer to your travel date, as schedules can sometimes be subject to last-minute adjustments.
