Understanding the Free Visa Offer
This is not a visa-free travel arrangement for all Indians. Instead, it's a tourism promotion where DCT Abu Dhabi covers the cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible travellers. The initiative is a pilot programme designed to make Abu Dhabi more accessible
and affordable for the Indian market. The visa cost, approximately AED 285, is waived when you book a qualifying holiday package. The offer is limited to the first 20,000 travellers who qualify under the scheme, so booking sooner rather than later is advisable.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for this complimentary visa, travellers must meet a clear set of criteria. First, you must be an Indian passport holder travelling from India. The offer is specifically tied to your point of departure. Second, the booking cannot be made independently; it must be done through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. Simply booking a flight or hotel directly will not make you eligible for the offer.
What You Must Book: The 3-Night Rule
The core requirement of this offer is the booking of a complete holiday package. This package must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. A shorter stay will not qualify. Alongside the hotel booking, the package must also include a return flight from India. This is a crucial detail; the offer is designed to encourage tourism through comprehensive packages, not just short transit visits. Both the hotel and flight must be part of the same qualifying booking made through the approved travel partner.
The October 31 Deadline Explained
The headline's October 31 deadline is critical. This initiative is valid for a three-month period, running from August 1, 2026, to October 31, 2026. According to reports, this window refers to the actual travel dates, not just the booking period. This means your entire trip, including your minimum three-night stay, must take place between these dates to be eligible for the free visa. Therefore, you must not only book but also complete your travel before the end of October to take advantage of the scheme.
How to Secure Your Free Visa
You cannot apply for this visa subsidy on your own. The process works entirely through the travel agencies participating in the DCT Abu Dhabi programme. When you book a qualifying package, the travel partner handles the visa processing. They will either work with a Destination Management Company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the cost directly, or get reimbursed for the visa fee. For you, the traveller, the process is simple: find a partner agency, book the right package, submit your documents, and the visa cost will be covered as part of the deal.
Distinguishing from Other Visa Types
It's important not to confuse this promotional offer with other UAE visa types. Standard tourist visas for 30 or 60 days are still available through the usual channels but are not free. Similarly, the free 48-hour transit visa is a separate option, typically sponsored by airlines like Etihad for passengers with a layover in Abu Dhabi before travelling to a third country. This promotional offer is specifically for tourism packages and requires a longer stay. Also, the general visa-on-arrival for Indians holding valid US, UK, or EU visas remains a separate policy.
