The trail takes you through beautiful rhododendron and oak forests, eventually opening up to reveal dramatic views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. It provides stunning views of Garhwal peaks like Swargarohini and Bandarpunch, packing a true Himalayan feel into a short and manageable journey.
Preparing for Your First Winter Trek
While these treks are beginner-friendly, proper preparation is key to a safe and enjoyable experience. The right gear is non-negotiable. This includes a layering system of clothing: a moisture-wicking base layer, a warm fleece or insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof, windproof outer jacket. Good quality, waterproof trekking shoes with solid grip are essential. Also, protect your extremities with warm woollen socks, waterproof gloves, and a cap. Physical fitness will make the journey more comfortable, so incorporating some cardio and leg-strengthening exercises a few weeks before your trip is advisable. Most importantly, always trek with a certified guide or a reputable organisation, especially in winter when trails can be hard to identify under the snow.
