Two Routes, One Key Change
This timetable revision specifically affects two popular services originating from Varanasi Junction. The change involves a 10-minute earlier departure for both the Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express and the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express. This adjustment
was made for operational reasons, likely to improve punctuality and streamline traffic flow along these busy corridors. For passengers, this means adjusting their arrival time at the station to avoid any last-minute rush or the risk of missing the train. It's important to note that the schedule for other Vande Bharat services from Varanasi, such as the one to New Delhi, remains unchanged in this update.
New Timing: Varanasi-Ranchi Express
The first service with a new schedule is the Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20888). Previously departing at 4:05 PM, the train will now leave Varanasi Junction at 3:55 PM, starting September 2. This service, which runs six days a week (excluding Tuesdays), is a vital link between Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. It covers a distance of approximately 536 kilometres in under eight hours, making stops at important stations like Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Gaya, Bokaro Steel City, and Muri before reaching Ranchi. While the departure from Varanasi is earlier, the arrival times at all subsequent stations and the final destination remain the same.
New Timing: Varanasi-Deoghar Express
The second train affected is the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22500), which is especially significant for pilgrims travelling to the revered Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple. This morning service will now depart from Varanasi at 6:10 AM instead of its previous time of 6:20 AM. This 10-minute shift is crucial for early morning travellers who often plan their arrival at the station with little time to spare. As with the Ranchi service, the earlier departure from Varanasi is the only change; the train's schedule at all other stations along its route to Deoghar will not be affected.
What This Means for Passengers
A 10-minute change might seem minor, but it can be the difference between a smooth journey and a missed train. Passengers accustomed to the old timings for the Ranchi and Deoghar services must now recalibrate their travel plans. Someone arriving at Varanasi station at 6:15 AM for the Deoghar train would, from September 2 onwards, find that the train has already left. Similarly, arriving just before 4:00 PM for the Ranchi service will no longer be a safe bet. Indian Railways has emphasized that the adjustment is only at the point of origin. This operational tweak allows the trains to maintain their schedule more effectively along the entire route without altering arrival times at intermediate stops or the final destination.
