A Unique Monsoon Spectacle
While Amrit Udyan is famous for its spring blossoms, a monsoon visit offers a completely different and equally enchanting experience. The gardens, spread over 15 acres, are at their most lush and vibrant during this time. The ‘Udyan Utsav-II’ or Summer
Annuals edition is specifically designed for this season, showcasing a variety of monsoon-friendly flowers that thrive in the wet weather. Instead of the familiar tulips and roses of February, visitors will find a curated display of indigenous plants like Balsam, Aparajita, and other summer annuals that add a unique splash of colour to the verdant landscape. The fresh, rain-washed air and the deep green lawns make for a serene escape from the city's hustle.
Know Before You Go: Dates and Timings
Amrit Udyan is open to the public for a limited window during the monsoon. For 2026, the gardens welcome visitors from August 16 to September 15. The daily visiting hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but it is important to note that the last entry is permitted only until 5:00 PM. Plan to arrive with enough time to comfortably explore the vast grounds. The gardens remain closed every Monday for essential maintenance work, so be sure to schedule your visit for any other day of the week. There are also special visiting days designated for specific groups: August 29 for sportspersons and September 5 for teachers.
How to Book Your Free Visit
Entry to Amrit Udyan is completely free of cost, but advance planning is mandatory. Walk-in entries are not permitted, and all visitors must book their slots online through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. The booking process is straightforward: you can reserve an hourly slot for your visit. A single booking can accommodate up to six individuals. A crucial point to remember is that bookings for a particular day close at 10:00 AM on the previous day. To avoid disappointment, especially for weekend visits, it is highly recommended to book your tickets well in advance. Once booked, you will receive a digital visitor pass, which you should have ready on your mobile phone along with a valid photo ID upon arrival.
What to See This Season
This monsoon edition puts a spotlight on India's rich botanical heritage, with a focus on native and indigenous flowering plants. Look out for vibrant displays of Gul-Mehndi, Rukmini, Varsha Phool, and Cosmos, which are well-suited to the climate. A major new attraction this year is the 'Babbling Brook', a landscaped feature with a meandering stream and reflecting pool designed to be a tranquil retreat. Beyond the seasonal blooms, visitors can explore the permanent themed areas, including the Bonsai Garden, the Circular Garden, and the Bal Vatika, a specially designed children's garden that features a 225-year-old Sheesham tree and a treehouse.
Getting There and Facilities
Reaching Amrit Udyan is convenient. The entry and exit point for all visitors is Gate No. 35, located on North Avenue Road. For those using public transport, the nearest metro station is Central Secretariat. A dedicated shuttle bus service operates from the metro station to the entry gate every 30 minutes, running from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Keeping the season in mind, thoughtful facilities have been arranged along the visitor route. You will find drinking water stalls, restrooms, and first-aid posts. Most importantly for a monsoon outing, there are designated rain shelters to offer protection during a downpour, ensuring a comfortable experience even if the weather changes.
Visitor Rules and Rain-Friendly Tips
To ensure a smooth visit, it's important to be aware of the rules. While you can carry your mobile phone, wallet, and purse, larger items like backpacks are not allowed. Food and drink from outside are also prohibited. The good news for a monsoon trip is that umbrellas are permitted, so be sure to bring one. Professional cameras and video cameras are not allowed, but mobile phone photography is generally fine for personal use. For parents visiting with infants, small handbags containing water and milk bottles are allowed. Wearing comfortable, water-resistant footwear is advisable to navigate the sprawling lawns, which may be damp.
