Secure Your Slot in Advance
Entry to Amrit Udyan is free, but booking is mandatory. The gardens are expected to be open for the Udyan Utsav-II, or the Summer Annuals edition, from August 16 to September 15, 2026. Visitors must book their visit online through the official Rashtrapati
Bhavan website, as there are no on-the-spot booking facilities. Slots are available on an hourly basis, typically from 10 am to 5 pm, and bookings for a specific day close at 10 am the day before. Given the popularity of the gardens, it's wise to reserve your slot well in advance, especially for weekend visits. The gardens remain closed on Mondays for maintenance.
Dress for a Wet Walk
Navigating the sprawling 15-acre garden during the monsoon requires practical attire. Prioritise comfort and safety by choosing the right footwear. Sturdy, non-slip shoes or waterproof sandals are essential, as stone pathways can become slippery when wet. Avoid heels or smooth-soled shoes. Opt for lightweight, quick-drying clothing. A waterproof jacket or poncho is often more practical than a large umbrella, allowing you to keep your hands free for taking photos with your permitted mobile phone. While umbrellas are allowed, a jacket can be less cumbersome in a crowd.
Know What to Carry (and What to Leave)
Security is strict, and visitors should be aware of the list of prohibited items. You are not allowed to bring in eatables, backpacks, cameras, or video cameras. However, you can carry your mobile phone, wallet, a purse, and an umbrella. For those visiting with infants, small handbags with water and milk bottles are permitted. To avoid any inconvenience at the entry gate, Gate No. 35 on North Avenue Road, pack light and only bring essentials. Cloakroom facilities may be available, but it is best to travel with minimal baggage.
Discover the Monsoon Blooms
A rainy-day visit offers a unique botanical experience. While the famous tulips of spring won't be there, the gardens showcase a vibrant array of summer annuals and indigenous plants that thrive in the monsoon. Look out for species like Gul-Mehndi, Aparajita, Rukmini, Coleus, and Celosia, which add a distinctly Indian character to the landscape. The rain washes the lawns to a brilliant green, and the air is fresh, making it a peaceful and sensory experience. Recently added sections like the Bal Vatika for children and the Bonsai Garden offer more to explore.
Getting There and Facilities
Reaching Amrit Udyan is convenient. The nearest metro station is Central Secretariat, and a shuttle bus service is scheduled to run every 30 minutes to Gate No. 35. This service helps visitors avoid parking hassles, which can be a challenge. Once inside, you will find visitor-friendly facilities. Drinking water stations, first-aid posts, and restrooms are available along the designated route. There are also rain shelters strategically placed to offer protection from a sudden downpour, ensuring your walk through the gardens remains a pleasant one.
