The Abu Dhabi Free Visa Initiative
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced a significant tourism programme aimed at Indian visitors. The initiative covers the cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible travellers, effectively making it free. This offer is designed
to attract more tourists from India by reducing the upfront cost of the holiday. It runs for a limited time, from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is initially capped at 20,000 visas. It's crucial to understand this is not a blanket visa-free entry policy for all Indian citizens; it's a targeted promotion linked to specific holiday packages.
Who is Eligible for the Offer?
This programme is exclusively for Indian passport holders whose journey originates in India. To qualify, travellers cannot simply book a flight and expect a free visa upon arrival. The visa cost waiver is tied directly to a qualifying holiday package booked for Abu Dhabi. The offer is not available to those who apply for a visa independently. Instead, it is processed by the travel companies participating in the scheme. This makes choosing the right booking partner a critical first step for anyone hoping to take advantage of the promotion.
Booking Conditions You Must Meet
To unlock the free visa, your booking must meet two main requirements. First, the travel package must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. Second, the booking must include a return flight from India. These holiday packages must be booked through a participating travel partner or a recognised online travel agency that is part of the DCT Abu Dhabi programme. The visa cost, which is approximately 285 dirhams ($77), is then either covered directly by DCT Abu Dhabi or reimbursed to the travel agency, removing that charge from your package cost.
How the Application Process Works
Individual tourists do not apply for this visa waiver themselves. The entire process is handled by the travel provider. When you book a qualifying package, the participating travel company will manage the visa application on your behalf. They work with either a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the cost directly, or they use their own DMCs and get reimbursed. This simplifies the process for the traveller, as the visa benefit is integrated directly into the holiday booking, but it also means you must rely on these approved channels.
Don't Forget the Free Visa for Children
Separately from the Abu Dhabi initiative, the UAE has a long-standing summer promotion for families of all nationalities. Children under the age of 18 who are travelling with a paying parent are exempt from tourist visa fees between July 15 and September 15, 2026. This is a nationwide policy renewed annually and applies to all seven emirates. It's important to note that while the government visa fee is waived, agency service charges or processing fees may still apply. This offer can be combined with other travel plans, providing another way for families to save during the summer holiday period.
Standard Visa Rules Still Apply
Even with these offers, standard UAE immigration rules must be followed. Every traveller, including infants and children, needs their own individual passport and visa to enter the country. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of travel. Travellers with valid US visas or green cards, or certain UK/EU residence permits, may be eligible for a 14-day visa on arrival for a fee, which is a separate option from these promotional offers. Always ensure all your travel documents are in order before booking your trip to avoid any issues.
