Introducing the Amrit Bharat Express
Indian Railways is regularising a special train service as the new, weekly Amrit Bharat Express, specifically connecting Gorakhpur Junction and Delhi Junction. This move is aimed at improving connectivity between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the national
capital, catering especially to migrant workers, students, and families looking for cost-effective travel. The service will operate with train number 15095 for the Gorakhpur-Delhi journey and 15096 for the return trip from Delhi to Gorakhpur. The launch is part of a broader strategy by the railways to expand the Amrit Bharat network, which focuses on providing modern amenities on non-premium, long-distance routes.
Schedule and Timings
The regular service is set to begin on August 27, 2026. Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM, arriving at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the next day. The return journey, Train No. 15096, will commence from August 28, 2026, leaving Delhi Junction every Friday at 2:10 PM and reaching Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM the following morning. This schedule provides a convenient overnight journey in both directions. The total travel time is expected to be around 14 hours, covering a distance of approximately 780 kilometres.
Route and Key Stoppages
The train will connect several important towns in Uttar Pradesh directly to the capital. There will be eight intermediate stops between Gorakhpur and Delhi. The key stations on the route are Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad. This ensures that passengers from these significant regional centres have a direct and new travel option, reducing pressure on existing mail and express trains on this heavily congested corridor.
What to Expect Onboard
The Amrit Bharat Express is designed to offer enhanced comfort at an affordable price point. The trains use modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, which are known for better safety and a smoother ride, and feature a push-pull locomotive setup for faster acceleration. The service will primarily consist of sleeper-class and unreserved coaches. Passengers can expect a range of modern amenities, including CCTV surveillance for security, bio-vacuum toilets, LED lighting, and passenger information display systems. Mobile charging points are also available for convenience.
