This private-sector surge, fuelled by significant investment and a desire for cost-effective innovation, is projected to grow India’s share of the global space economy from around $8.4 billion today to $44 billion by 2033. This explosive growth is creating thousands of new jobs, and many of them don't require an aerospace engineering degree.

As private companies enter the fray, they bring with them the classic needs of any competitive business. This has given rise to a demand for finance wizards, economists, and business development managers who can build a financial case for a new launch vehicle or value a satellite constellation for investors. These professionals are crucial for securing funding, managing budgets, and identifying commercial markets for space-based services. Furthermore, as the sector becomes crowded, branding is key. Marketing and communications specialists are needed to tell the story of these startups, attract top talent, and build a public profile that distinguishes them from competitors. It’s no longer enough to build great technology; companies need to sell the vision, a task that falls to non-technical experts.
Law, Policy, and the Final Frontier
With more satellites being launched than ever before, the vacuum of space is getting crowded. This has created an urgent need for space lawyers and policy experts. These professionals navigate the complex web of international treaties, domestic regulations, and liability issues. What happens if a private satellite collides with another? Who is responsible for orbital debris? How are launch licenses secured? The establishment of IN-SPACe, India's regulatory body for private space activities, highlights the growing importance of this field. The most valuable product from space is often not hardware, but data. This has elevated the role of Human Resources (HR) professionals who specialise in recruiting, retaining, and developing highly skilled technical and non-technical talent.
