and travel details before you land. This system was introduced to streamline the immigration process, enhance border security, and reduce waiting times at airports and other entry points. All foreign nationals, including those from India, must complete it. Forgetting this step is a common reason for delays upon arrival, as travellers are often asked to step aside and complete the form on the spot, sometimes with unreliable airport Wi-Fi.
Is It Mandatory for Indian Travellers?
Yes, absolutely. All Indian passport holders must complete the MDAC before entering Malaysia. This rule applies regardless of your travel purpose—be it tourism, business, or visiting family—and also applies whether you are entering under the visa-free scheme or with a different type of visa. It's important to understand that 'visa-free' does not mean 'paperwork-free'. While Indian citizens can enjoy visa-free entry for stays of up to 30 days until December 31, 2026, the MDAC is a separate and compulsory requirement. The only exceptions are for Malaysian permanent residents, long-term pass holders, and citizens of a few specific countries, which does not include India for standard tourist travel.
How to Fill Out the Form
The process is straightforward and should only take a few minutes. First, you must visit the official MDAC portal run by the Malaysian Immigration Department. Be cautious of unofficial third-party websites that might charge a fee; the official MDAC submission is completely free. You will need to provide your full name as it appears on your passport, passport number, date of birth, nationality, and contact information. You'll also enter your travel details, including your date of arrival, port of entry (e.g., Kuala Lumpur International Airport), and flight number. Finally, you must provide the address of your accommodation in Malaysia. After reviewing all the details for accuracy, submit the form. A confirmation will be sent to your email, which is wise to save as a digital copy or printout.
When to Submit Your MDAC
Timing is crucial for the MDAC. You must complete and submit the form within the three-day window immediately preceding your arrival in Malaysia. For example, if you are scheduled to land in Kuala Lumpur on August 20th, you can submit your form on August 18th, 19th, or 20th. The system will not allow you to submit it earlier than three days before your arrival date. Filing it at the last minute just before your flight is not recommended, as you might face internet issues or make mistakes in a rush. The best practice is to complete it a day or two before you travel to ensure everything is in order.
The Arrival Process in Malaysia
Upon arriving in Malaysia, immigration officers will have your MDAC information linked electronically to your passport. You should be prepared to present your valid passport (with at least six months of validity), a confirmed return or onward flight ticket, and proof of accommodation. While a printout of the MDAC confirmation isn't strictly required, having a digital copy on your phone is a good backup. For Indian travellers, after their first visit and successful MDAC registration, they may be eligible to use the e-gates at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on subsequent trips, allowing for a much faster immigration clearance. However, for the first-time entry, you will likely need to go through a manual counter to verify your documents.
