The Mandatory Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
While a visa may not be necessary, completing the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is a mandatory step for all foreign nationals, including Indians. This digital form replaces the old paper-based landing cards and must be filled out online within three days prior to your arrival in Malaysia. You can complete the MDAC through the official Immigration Department portal, and it is completely free of charge. The form requires your personal details, passport information, travel dates, and accommodation address in Malaysia. It is advisable to fill this out at least 24 hours before your flight to avoid any last-minute issues.
Your Essential Document Checklist
Being prepared with the right documents is key to a swift passage through immigration. Even with visa-free entry, officers will expect to see a set of supporting paperwork. First and foremost, your passport must have at least six months of validity from your date of entry. You must also have a confirmed return or onward flight ticket showing your departure from Malaysia within the 30-day limit. Proof of accommodation, such as confirmed hotel bookings for your entire stay, is another critical document. It is wise to have both digital and physical copies of these documents readily accessible.
Proof of Sufficient Funds
Malaysian immigration authorities require travellers to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover their expenses during their stay. While there isn't a fixed, mandated amount, a general guideline is to have access to funds equivalent to around USD 50 per day of your stay. This can be in the form of cash, but you can also show proof through credit cards, debit cards, or a recent bank statement. Being able to prove your financial capacity assures officers that you are a genuine tourist and can support yourself without issues.
What to Expect at the Immigration Counter
Upon landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA or KLIA2), you will proceed to the immigration counters. Have your passport, boarding pass, and a copy of your submitted MDAC ready. The immigration officer will scan your passport and verify your details against the information you provided in the MDAC. They may ask you a few simple questions about the purpose of your visit, the duration of your stay, and where you will be staying.
