In a city defined by architectural superlatives, Dubai is adding another glittering project to its roster. Plans have been announced for what is being called the world's longest 24-karat gold walkway, a new venture aiming to dazzle tourists.
A Glimmering Addition to Deira
Dubai's latest
ambitious project is a walkway made of 24-karat gold, set to be unveiled in the Dubai Gold District before the end of 2026. According to recent announcements, the walkway is expected to open to the public within the next two months. This new attraction is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city's status as a global hub for both tourism and the gold trade. Rashid Al Harmoodi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, stated that the project aims to offer visitors an exceptional and unique experience, allowing them to literally walk a golden path. The walkway is envisioned as a landmark that blends Dubai's long-standing connection to the gold trade with its flair for creating unforgettable tourist attractions.
More Than Just a Golden Path
While the headline feature is its 24-karat gold construction, the walkway is a central element of the larger Deira Enrichment Project. This initiative, led by developer Ithra Dubai, aims to rejuvenate one of the city's most historic commercial districts. The project is not just about a single path but an entire upgraded urban experience. It includes the Gold Souk Extension, a massive development featuring hundreds of new retail shops, offices, and residential units. The broader plan incorporates shaded walkways, new bridges, modern facilities, and improved transportation infrastructure, including significant new parking facilities to ease congestion in the bustling area. The goal is to modernize the district while preserving the cultural charm of the traditional souk.
Boosting a Historic Trading Hub
The Gold Walkway is strategically located within the Dubai Gold District in Deira, an area launched in January 2026 to consolidate businesses involved in gold, jewellery, and bullion trading. This district already houses over 1,000 traders and is experiencing significant growth, with a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices since the start of 2026. The new walkway is expected to drive even more foot traffic and commercial activity. It complements plans for a major gold and jewellery exhibition intended to be the largest in the Middle East. By creating a must-see attraction, the district hopes to draw in tourists and shoppers, further cementing Deira's reputation as the heart of Dubai's gold trade.
A New Jewel in Dubai's Crown?
In a city with landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah, any new project faces stiff competition for attention. However, the Gold Walkway's unique proposition as the 'world's longest' of its kind gives it a distinct edge. The project aligns with Dubai's ongoing urban master plan, which includes a host of new mega projects like the Palm Jebel Ali and the Dubai Reefs floating eco tourism project. The announcement of the walkway came as Dubai also celebrated Guinness World Records for the world's heaviest pair of gold earrings, further highlighting the city's affinity for grand, gold themed achievements. While the exact length and construction details remain under wraps, the ambition is clear: to create an iconic experience that merges luxury, commerce, and tourism in a way only Dubai can.
