The eTA is typically valid for a single entry and a stay of up to 90 days. The processing fee is approximately USD 34. While often referred to as 'visa-free', it's crucial to remember that obtaining this pre-travel authorization is a required step for a smooth entry.
Sri Lanka: Free Tourist ETA for Indians
Our island neighbour, Sri Lanka, continues to be an accessible and attractive destination. As of May 2026, the country offers a free Tourist ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for Indian passport holders. It's important to note that while the fee is waived, applying for and receiving the ETA online before your departure is still a mandatory requirement. The phrase 'visa-free' can be slightly misleading; think of it as a required travel pass that now costs nothing. This free ETA allows for a stay of up to 30 days and includes a double-entry facility, meaning you can exit and re-enter Sri Lanka once within that 30-day period. To apply, you'll need a passport with at least six months' validity, a confirmed return ticket, and proof of your accommodation.
Thailand: Visa-Free Entry Confirmed
After a period of uncertainty, Thailand's government has confirmed that visa-free entry for Indian tourists will continue. A proposal in mid-2026 suggested moving India to a paid visa-on-arrival category, but this was officially reversed on July 14, 2026, to maintain the strong tourism connection. However, a key change is the duration of stay. The previous 60-day visa exemption is being replaced with a 30-day visa-free stay. As of late August 2026, the 60-day rule was still technically in effect pending official publication of the new rule, but travelers should plan for a 30-day stay. You do not need to pay a fee or apply for a visa in advance. You simply need to carry your valid passport, a return ticket, proof of accommodation, and sufficient funds for your trip. The mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) must also be completed online before you arrive.
