A New Weekly Connection
Indian Railways has regularised a special service into a new, weekly Amrit Bharat Express connecting Gorakhpur and Delhi. The service, which begins its regular run on August 27, 2026, is a significant step in enhancing connectivity between eastern Uttar
Pradesh and the national capital. Train number 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM, reaching Delhi the next day at 12:50 PM. In the return direction, train number 15096 will leave Delhi every Friday at 2:00 PM and arrive in Gorakhpur at 6:25 AM the following morning. The move is aimed at easing the heavy passenger load on one of the country's most high-demand routes.
The Amrit Bharat Advantage
The Amrit Bharat Express is a new category of train designed specifically for affordable, long-distance travel. Unlike premium services, these trains feature non-AC sleeper and general class coaches, targeting the common passenger. The key innovation is the use of 'push-pull' technology, with a locomotive at each end of the 22-coach train. This allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, cutting down overall journey time. The train can operate at a maximum speed of 130 km/h, and for the Delhi-Gorakhpur route, the journey is expected to take around 14 hours, a notable improvement over some existing services.
Vande Bharat-Style Amenities on a Budget
What sets the Amrit Bharat Express apart is its focus on passenger comfort, incorporating many features previously seen only on premium trains like the Vande Bharat. Passengers can expect a significantly upgraded travel experience compared to conventional express trains. The coaches are equipped with comfortable, cushioned berths, foldable snack tables, and dedicated mobile holders. Every passenger has access to mobile charging sockets with both USB-A and C-type ports. The jerk-free ride, a result of semi-automatic couplers, enhances comfort on the overnight journey. Other modern amenities include a public address and passenger information system (PAPIS), CCTV cameras for security, and radium-illuminated flooring strips for better visibility at night.
Improved Hygiene and Accessibility
Special attention has been paid to improving hygiene and accessibility. The train features modernised toilets with an electro-pneumatic pressurised flushing system, similar to those in Vande Bharat trains. These facilities also come with automatic soap dispensers and an odour control system to maintain cleanliness throughout the long journey. For Divyangjan passengers (persons with disabilities), there are designated accessible toilets with wider doors. The focus on providing a dignified and clean environment is a core part of the Amrit Bharat concept.
Route and Halts
Covering a distance of approximately 780 kilometres, the train will provide a crucial link for several towns in Uttar Pradesh. The key halts between Gorakhpur and Delhi include Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad. This ensures that passengers from these intermediate stations have a direct, modern, and affordable travel option to the national capital. The service is operated by the North Eastern Railway, with primary maintenance of the rake based at Gorakhpur.
