A Major Upgrade for a Key Route
The Delhi-Gorakhpur corridor is one of the busiest in the country, connecting the national capital with eastern Uttar Pradesh. To ease the passenger rush and provide a better travel option, Indian Railways has regularised a special service into a new
weekly Amrit Bharat Express. Commencing its regular service on August 27, 2026, from Gorakhpur, this train aims to provide a direct and more convenient option for thousands of commuters. It replaces the previous special train (05057/05058) and will now run with the dedicated Amrit Bharat rake, known for its modern design and passenger-focused amenities. This service is part of a broader push to improve rail access for passengers in mid-sized towns and cities.
What Makes Amrit Bharat 'Smarter'?
The Amrit Bharat Express is designed to be a significant step up from conventional mail and express trains, focusing on speed and comfort. A key innovation is the use of 'push-pull' technology, with a locomotive at each end. This allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing overall journey time. The train can reach a maximum speed of 130 kmph. Passengers will also experience a smoother, jerk-free ride thanks to the use of semi-automatic couplers, an upgrade from the systems on many existing coaches. The service primarily consists of non-AC sleeper and general class coaches, designed to offer an affordable yet modern travel experience for the common person.
Onboard Features and Amenities
Inside, the Amrit Bharat Express boasts features inspired by the premium Vande Bharat trains. Coaches are equipped with cushioned seats and berths, foldable snack tables, and dedicated mobile holders with both USB Type-A and Type-C charging ports. For better visibility and safety, the coaches have radium-illuminated flooring strips and are monitored by CCTV cameras. The toilets have been significantly improved, featuring an electro-pneumatic flushing system, automatic soap dispensers, and an odour control system. Fully sealed gangways between coaches reduce noise and provide a safer, more seamless experience when moving through the train.
Schedule, Timings, and Route
The new service operates under train numbers 15095 from Gorakhpur to Delhi and 15096 for the return journey. Train No. 15095 (Gorakhpur to Delhi): This train departs from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM and is scheduled to arrive at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the next day. Train No. 15096 (Delhi to Gorakhpur): The return service departs from Delhi Junction every Friday at 2:10 PM, reaching Gorakhpur Junction at 6:30 AM the following morning. Covering a distance of approximately 780 km in about 14 hours, the train has eight key stops between the terminal stations. These include Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad, providing crucial connectivity to several towns in Uttar Pradesh.

The Amrit Bharat Express is positioned as an affordable service. While it offers upgraded amenities, the fares are based on the standard pricing for sleeper and general class travel on Indian Railways, making it a budget-friendly option. Tickets can be booked through the official IRCTC website and mobile app, as well as at railway station reservation counters. Given that this is a new and popular weekly service on a busy route, it is advisable to book tickets well in advance, especially during festive seasons or holidays.
