Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a new pilot program aimed at making travel from India more accessible. Under this scheme, the cost of a UAE entry visa is completely covered for eligible Indian tourists. This
initiative is designed to encourage longer stays in the capital, shifting the focus from short transits to multi-day holidays. However, this is a limited-time offer. The program is valid for travel that takes place between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. Furthermore, it is capped at an initial 20,000 visas, meaning availability is finite and booking in advance is recommended. The visa fee being waived amounts to approximately AED 285, or around $77 per person, which can represent a significant saving, especially for families or groups.
The Eligibility Checklist: Who Qualifies?
Not every Indian traveler is automatically eligible for this complimentary visa. To qualify, you must meet a clear set of requirements. First, you must be an Indian passport holder whose journey originates in India. The most crucial condition is that you cannot book your flight and hotel separately. Instead, you must book a complete holiday package through a participating travel partner or an approved Online Travel Agency (OTA). This package must include both a return flight ticket from India and a hotel stay in Abu Dhabi. A flight-only or hotel-only booking will not qualify you for the visa waiver.
The Three-Night Rule Explained
The centerpiece of this offer is the accommodation requirement. To have your visa cost covered, your holiday package must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in a hotel within Abu Dhabi. This is a non-negotiable part of the deal. A booking for two nights, or for three non-consecutive nights, will not be eligible. It is also important to note that the hotel stay must be in Abu Dhabi itself. Booking a hotel in Dubai or another emirate, even if you plan to visit Abu Dhabi, will disqualify you from this specific visa offer. The program is explicitly designed to increase tourism and overnight stays within the capital emirate.
How to Avail the Offer
Securing this visa waiver is handled by your travel provider, not by you directly. The first step is to find a travel agency or OTA that is participating in the DCT Abu Dhabi scheme. You should explicitly ask your travel agent if they are registered for the program before you book. Once you book a qualifying package—that is, one with return flights and a minimum three-night stay in Abu Dhabi—the travel partner will handle the visa processing. They will either process it through a DCT-appointed company that covers the cost directly or get reimbursed for the AED 285 fee. For the traveler, the process is simple: as long as your booking is eligible, the visa cost should be excluded from your final invoice.
Is It Truly 'Free'? Understanding the Fine Print
While the headline is enticing, it's important to understand what 'free' means in this context. The offer covers the administrative cost of your UAE entry visa, which is a real saving. However, it does not mean your entire holiday is free. You are still responsible for the cost of your flights and the mandatory three-night hotel package. This initiative should be viewed as a subsidy or a discount on the overall cost of an Abu Dhabi holiday, rather than a completely free trip. The value lies in removing the upfront visa expense, making the decision to book a trip to the emirate more attractive.
What If This Offer Doesn't Fit My Plans?
This three-night package deal is excellent for those planning a short holiday, but it won't work for everyone. Indian citizens have other routes for entering the UAE. The most common alternative is the visa-on-arrival facility. This is available to Indian passport holders who also hold a valid visa or residence permit from the USA, United Kingdom, or an EU member state. This visa is typically granted for 14 days upon arrival for a fee. Additionally, airlines like Etihad offer short-term transit visas (for 48 or 96 hours) for passengers with long layovers in Abu Dhabi, which can be another option for those just passing through. These alternatives operate independently of the DCT Abu Dhabi promotional offer.
