In a city that boasts the world's tallest building and islands shaped like palm trees, what comes next? For Dubai, the answer is a path paved with gold. A new 24-carat gold walkway is set to open before the end of 2026.
A Golden Path for the City of Gold
Dubai is adding another superlative
to its long list of attractions: the world's first and longest 24-carat gold walkway. The project was announced by the Dubai Gold District, with officials confirming the attraction is scheduled to open within the next two months, before the close of 2026. The walkway aims to give residents and tourists a truly unique experience, allowing them to stroll along a path literally made of gold. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to cement Dubai’s status as a global hub for gold trading while simultaneously boosting its tourism appeal with one-of-a-kind experiences.
The Heart of the Jewellery Trade
The choice of location is no coincidence. The walkway will be the centerpiece of the Dubai Gold District in Deira, a hub launched in January 2026 to consolidate the city's massive gold and jewellery trade. The district already hosts over 1,000 retailers and is a bustling centre for wholesale trading and investment in precious metals. According to Rashid Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, the project is designed to draw more visitors to the area and complement its commercial activities. The announcement itself was made on the sidelines of an event celebrating two new Guinness World Records for a pair of giant gold earrings, further highlighting the district's connection to the precious metal.
More Than Just a Walkway
While the idea of walking on gold is the main draw, the project is part of a larger expansion. The Dubai Gold District is undergoing significant growth to meet rising demand from international jewellery companies looking to set up operations. Since the start of 2026, the district has seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new retail stores. Officials anticipate this growth will continue, with the number of companies in the district expected to increase by another 10% to 20% in the coming year. The walkway is seen as a powerful magnet that will attract tourists and, in turn, drive more business and investment. The district is also planning what it hopes will become the largest gold and jewellery trade exhibition in the Middle East.
An Enduring Fascination with Gold
This project is the latest chapter in Dubai's long and glittering history with gold. From the bustling Gold Souk, a traditional market that has operated for decades, to the new, modern Gold District, the emirate has always been a key player in the global gold trade. The new walkway takes this association to another level, transforming the precious metal from a commodity to be traded into a tangible, interactive experience. It’s a move that fits perfectly with Dubai's brand of building bigger, better, and more memorable attractions than anywhere else. While finer details like the exact length and the quantity of gold being used have not yet been made public, the promise alone is enough to capture the imagination.
