Understanding the Free Visa Offer
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme specifically for Indian travellers. It's not a visa-free entry policy for all, but rather a targeted promotion where the cost of the UAE entry visa is covered
for those who book a qualifying holiday package. The initiative runs from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is initially limited to 20,000 visas. The key is that you cannot apply for this free visa independently. The benefit is tied directly to holiday packages booked through participating travel agencies and online travel platforms, which handle the visa process on your behalf.
Key Requirements for Your Package
To unlock the complimentary visa, your Abu Dhabi travel package must meet specific criteria. The most crucial rule is that the booking must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. This requirement is designed to encourage tourists to spend more time exploring the emirate itself, rather than treating it as a brief transit stop. Additionally, the package must include a return flight from India. Simply booking a flight or hotel separately will not make you eligible for the offer. The entire qualifying package—flights and the minimum three-night stay—must be booked together through a travel partner participating in the DCT Abu Dhabi programme.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
This promotion is aimed squarely at Indian passport holders who are beginning their journey from India. It’s essential that your passport is valid for at least six months from your intended date of travel to the UAE, a standard requirement for entry. While the visa fee is covered, you must still meet all of the UAE's standard immigration requirements for a visa to be approved and issued. This offer is distinct from other UAE visa rules, such as the visa-on-arrival facility available to Indian passport holders with valid US, UK, or EU visas. The free visa is exclusively for those who purchase the specified holiday package.
The Booking and Application Process
The process is streamlined to work through travel providers. Your first step is to find a participating travel agency or online travel portal that is part of this initiative. When booking, you must ensure the package you select explicitly includes the free UAE visa offer. Once you have chosen a qualifying package with your flights and three-night hotel stay, you will submit the necessary documents (like your passport copy and photograph) to the travel provider. They will then handle the visa application with a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the cost directly. You will receive your visa without being charged the standard fee of around AED 285.
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
The most common mistake would be to assume the free visa is automatic for any trip to Abu Dhabi. Remember, you must book through a participating partner. Booking flights and hotels on your own, even if they meet the stay duration, will not qualify you. Another point of confusion is the duration. The offer requires a minimum of three consecutive nights, so a split stay would not be eligible. Finally, given the programme has a cap of 20,000 visas and runs for a limited time (until October 31, 2026), it is crucial to confirm availability with your travel agent before finalising your payment. Always get confirmation in writing that your package includes the visa cost waiver.
