The Freight Superhighway: Western Dedicated Freight Corridor
A massive chunk of the investment, over ₹20,700 crore, is dedicated to completing the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). Three key sections are being launched: New Sanand to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Saphale, and New Saphale to JNPT

Upgrading Key Rail Arteries: Vadodara-Ratlam and More
Over ₹9,700 crore is earmarked for laying the third and fourth railway lines between Vadodara and Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh). This is a critical route for both passenger and goods movement between Gujarat and central India. Adding more lines will drastically increase the route's capacity, allowing more trains to run simultaneously and reducing delays. Other significant projects include the gauge conversion of the Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar section and the doubling of the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi line, further enhancing local and regional connectivity around Vadodara.
Connecting the Hinterland: New Lines for Tribal Areas
A key development is the new Jobat-Tanda Road railway line, part of the broader Chhota Udepur-Dhar project. This line is vital as it will connect the remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur with the national railway network for the first time. A new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara (Pratapnagar) has also been flagged off, providing crucial, affordable transport for residents in Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, and Alirajpur districts and opening up new opportunities for economic and social development.
Smoother Road Travel: NH-48 and NH-53 Enhancements
The road network receives a nearly ₹1,800 crore push, focusing on some of the most congested national highways. This includes the six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan stretch of NH-48 and the construction of new major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada rivers on the busy Vadodara-Surat section. Furthermore, to ease bottlenecks, grade-separated structures will be built at the Abhava, Mindhola, and Khajod junctions on NH-53 near Surat. Six-lane flyovers at Kandari Chokdi and Luvara Patia on NH-48 are also being inaugurated to improve safety and address accident-prone spots.
The Bigger Picture: Expressways and Semi-High-Speed Rail
While part of this specific announcement, these projects tie into a larger vision. The upgrades to NH-48 complement the ongoing development of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, a project set to cut travel time between the two cities from eight hours to just four. Similarly, the rail upgrades lay the groundwork for future high-speed connectivity. Proposed projects like the Ahmedabad-Rajkot Semi-High-Speed Rail, aiming to cut travel time to just two hours from the current four-plus, will integrate with this strengthened network, creating a truly modern transport grid for the state.
