A new chapter in Indian Railways history has begun, connecting the country's tech capital with its financial hub. The much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper service between Bengaluru and Mumbai is now a reality, promising a faster, more comfortable journey.
A Major Upgrade in Connectivity
On November 1, 2026, the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai was flagged off from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru. This launch marks a significant milestone, introducing the first Vande Bharat sleeper service to southern India and offering a premium overnight travel option between two of the nation's most critical economic centers. The new service dramatically reduces travel time to approximately 16 hours, a substantial improvement over the 22 to 24 hours taken by many existing express trains on the same route. The train is designed to serve a wide range of travelers, from business professionals to families, who prefer the convenience of overnight rail travel.
Official Schedule and Days of Operation
Regular commercial services for the train are set to begin from Mumbai on November 2 and from Bengaluru on November 3. The train will operate six days a week. Train No. 27652, from SMVT Bengaluru to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, will run every day except for Mondays. It is scheduled to depart Bengaluru at 7:45 PM and arrive in Mumbai at 11:55 AM the next day. In the return direction, Train No. 27651 will depart from CSMT Mumbai at 8:10 PM and reach SMVT Bengaluru at 12:00 PM the following afternoon. This service will not run from Mumbai on Tuesdays.
Key Stops Along the Route
The train is designed for speed and efficiency, with a limited number of stops to reduce travel time. The service will connect major stations across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The eight official halts for the train between Bengaluru and Mumbai are Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune, and Kalyan. These stops have been strategically chosen to provide connectivity to important towns and cities along the corridor, ensuring the service benefits a larger population beyond just the terminal cities.
Inside the Modern Sleeper Coaches
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is not just faster; it's a complete upgrade in passenger experience. Each 16-coach trainset can accommodate 823 passengers across three classes: AC First Class, AC 2nd Tier, and AC 3rd Tier. The interiors feature ergonomically designed, betterer cushioned berths for enhanced comfort. Amenities include individual charging points with USB ports, personal reading lights, and Wi_Fi enabled infotainment systems. The train boasts improved soundproofing for a quieter journey and features advanced safety systems like the Kavach anti collision system, CCTV cameras, and fire retardant materials. Passenger hygiene is prioritized with modern bio vacuum toilets equipped with touch free fittings. Passengers in First AC will have the exclusive facility of a hot shower.
Fare Structure and How to Book
Ticket bookings for the new service have already commenced. The fare structure is competitive for a premium service. For the full journey from Bengaluru to Mumbai, the indicative fare for AC 3rd Tier is approximately ₹2,810. A berth in AC second Tier costs around ₹3,630, while the premium AC First Class is priced at about ₹4,450. These prices may vary based on dynamic pricing and catering choices. Passengers can book their tickets through the official IRCTC website and app, as well as at railway station reservation counters. Given the high demand expected for this modern service, booking in advance is highly recommended.
