Air India has announced a new, non-stop seasonal service connecting Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with Toronto Pearson International Airport. This service is scheduled to operate three times a week from October 25, 2026, until
March 26, 2027, making it the only direct flight option between the two major cities during the winter season. The route will be serviced by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which includes first-class suites, business class, and economy seats, adding approximately 2,000 seats weekly to this popular corridor. This move is part of a larger expansion by the airline to increase its footprint in the Canadian market, a sign of strong confidence in the route's viability.
The Non-Stop Advantage
For years, most travellers on this route had to contend with one or two layovers in Europe or the Middle East, turning a long journey into an exhaustive one. A direct flight slashes the total travel time significantly. While connecting flights can take anywhere from 19 to over 24 hours, a direct flight from Mumbai to Toronto takes approximately 16 hours. This saves nearly a full day of travel on the return leg as well. For families with children, elderly parents, or business travellers on a tight schedule, eliminating the hassle of transiting through another airport—including potential re-screening of security and navigating large terminals—is a major practical benefit.
