The Opportunity: 175 New Vacancies
ISRO has announced 175 vacancies for the post of Scientist/Engineer 'SC' across three key disciplines: Electronics, Mechanical, and Computer Science. The recruitment notification, released on August 27, 2026, outlines opportunities within various ISRO centres
as well as the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL). The breakdown includes 99 posts for Electronics, 52 for Mechanical, and 21 for Computer Science, with a few additional posts at PRL. Selected candidates will be appointed at Level 10 of the pay matrix, with a basic monthly pay of ₹56,100 plus allowances. This recruitment drive presents a significant opportunity for aspiring engineers to contribute to India's prestigious space program.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for these coveted roles, candidates must meet specific educational and age requirements. Applicants need a B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree in the relevant engineering discipline with a minimum aggregate of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. The degree must be completed within the standard duration of the course. The maximum age for applicants is 28 years as of the application closing date, which is September 16, 2026. Age relaxation is available for candidates from reserved categories as per government regulations. It is crucial for applicants to ensure they meet these criteria before beginning the application process.
How to Apply: The Online Process
The application process is entirely online and must be completed through the official ISRO recruitment portal. The window for applications opened on August 27, 2026, and will close at 11:55 PM on September 16, 2026. Candidates must first register on the portal, then fill out the application form with personal and educational details, upload the required documents, and pay the fee. There is an initial processing fee of ₹750, of which ₹250 is the non-refundable application fee. The remaining amount may be refunded based on attendance at the written test and other conditions. Women, SC/ST, PwBD, and ex-servicemen candidates are eligible for a full refund of the processing fee after appearing for the test.
The Two-Stage Selection Process
Selection for these roles involves a two-stage process: a written test and an interview. The written test consists of two parts. Part A focuses on the specific engineering discipline and carries 80 marks. Part B is an aptitude test worth 20 marks, assessing skills like numerical reasoning and logical deduction. Candidates who perform well in the written test will be shortlisted for a personal interview in a 1:5 ratio. The final selection is based on a 50-50 weightage given to the marks obtained in the written test and the interview. The interview will evaluate technical knowledge, communication skills, and general awareness. Some ISRO recruitments may also use GATE scores for shortlisting, but this particular drive relies on the written test.
