Which Trains Are Affected?
The schedule adjustment applies to two popular semi-high-speed trains originating from Varanasi Cantt station. The first is the Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20888), and the second is the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22500).
Both services will now depart 10 minutes earlier than their previous schedules. According to Northern Railway, this change has been implemented for operational reasons, aiming to streamline services on these busy routes. It is important for passengers to know that the new timings are only for departures from Varanasi; the schedules at all subsequent stations on both routes remain unchanged.
New Timing for Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat
The Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20888), a vital link connecting Uttar Pradesh with Jharkhand, will see its departure time moved forward. Starting September 2, 2026, the train will leave Varanasi at 3:55 PM instead of its current 4:05 PM departure. This service, which was flagged off in March 2024, operates six days a week, excluding Tuesdays. It covers a distance of 536 kilometres in about 7 hours and 50 minutes, making it a preferred choice for many. The train stops at several key stations, including Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Gaya, Koderma, and Bokaro Steel City before reaching Ranchi.
Revised Schedule for Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat
The second train with a revised schedule is the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22500). This service is particularly important for pilgrims travelling to the temple town of Deoghar, home to the revered Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple. Effective September 2, 2026, this train will depart from Varanasi at 6:10 AM, which is 10 minutes earlier than its previous time of 6:20 AM. Passengers relying on this early morning service will need to adjust their travel plans to ensure they reach the station on time. Just like the Ranchi service, the timings for this train at all stations beyond Varanasi will not change.
Why A 10-Minute Change Matters
While a 10-minute adjustment might seem minor, it can be the difference between catching your train and missing it, especially for premium, punctual services like the Vande Bharat Express. Passengers who are accustomed to the old schedule and plan their arrival at the station with little time to spare are most at risk of being left behind. Someone arriving at 4:00 PM for the Ranchi train would now find they have only five minutes to board, while a passenger arriving at 6:15 AM for the Deoghar service would discover the train has already departed. This underscores the importance of being aware of the updated timings and planning your commute to Varanasi Cantt station accordingly.
How to Stay Updated
Indian Railways has advised all passengers to verify the new schedule before commencing their journey. While this change is now in effect, it is always a good practice to double-check train timings before any trip. Travellers can find the most accurate and current information on the official Indian Railways website, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app, or through authorised booking platforms. Arriving at the station at least 20 to 30 minutes before the revised departure time is recommended to avoid any last-minute rush or inconvenience, ensuring a smooth and comfortable travel experience on these state-of-the-art trains.
