A Faster, More Powerful System
At the core of the upgrade is a massive boost in performance designed to tackle the infamous slowdowns during peak hours and Tatkal bookings. The new platform can reportedly process over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, a significant jump from the previous
capacity of around 32,000. The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) backend has also been enhanced to handle over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, a tenfold increase. This enhanced capacity is aimed squarely at reducing website crashes, booking failures, and payment issues, making the entire process more stable and reliable for users.
A Cleaner, Clutter-Free Interface
One of the most visible changes is the redesigned user interface. The new layout is cleaner, more intuitive, and free of the distractions that previously plagued the booking process. Unnecessary pop-ups, flashing advertisements, and, most notably, the frequent CAPTCHA verifications have been significantly reduced or removed for regular bookings. This streamlined design allows passengers to search for trains, check availability, and complete their reservations with fewer steps and interruptions, which is expected to make the experience much faster and less frustrating.
New Features for Smarter Booking
Beyond the cosmetic and performance upgrades, the website introduces several new tools to give passengers more control and information. A new 'Fare Calendar' allows travellers to compare ticket prices across different dates, helping them find more economical options. Another major addition is the ability to select a preferred seat or berth during the booking process, a feature long requested by users. Furthermore, a unified seat availability screen now shows availability across all classes (Sleeper, AC 3 Tier, AC 2 Tier, etc.) at once, eliminating the need to search each class separately.
Enhanced Accessibility and Convenience
The revamped platform aims to be more inclusive and accessible. It now supports multiple Indian languages, making it easier for people across the country to book tickets without language being a barrier. The upgrade also consolidates concession bookings onto a single platform. This simplifies the process for Divyangjan passengers, students, and patients, who previously had to navigate separate or more complex procedures to book subsidized tickets. Frequent travellers can also save passenger details to make future bookings quicker and more convenient.
