What Exactly is the Package Visa?
The Package Visa is a new digital service designed to simplify the entire process of planning a trip to Saudi Arabia. Instead of navigating separate websites for airline tickets, hotel bookings, and a complex visa application, travellers can now arrange
everything at once through an approved travel provider. This integrated approach bundles a confirmed return flight, accommodation at a licensed hotel, travel insurance, and an electronic tourist visa into a single purchase. The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a wider strategy to make the country more accessible and grow its tourism sector.
How Does the Process Work?
The process is designed for convenience and speed. Travellers start by choosing a qualifying tourism package from an accredited travel agency's digital platform. Currently, approved providers include platforms like Almosafer and Reserval. Once a package is selected, the traveller completes the payment securely online. After the booking and personal details are verified, the electronic tourist visa and travel insurance are issued, typically within 48 hours. All documents, including the visa, flight details, and hotel confirmation, are then delivered directly to the traveller's email, eliminating the need to visit an embassy.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
This new Package Visa has been launched as a pilot program, and India is one of the first seven countries whose citizens are eligible. The other initial countries are Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Mexico. This makes it a significant new option for Indian tourists planning a trip to the Kingdom. The Ministry of Tourism has stated that more nationalities will be added to the program in subsequent phases as it expands. The service is intended for tourists and is separate from specific pilgrimage arrangements for Hajj.
Key Requirements and Benefits
The primary benefit is the dramatic reduction in administrative hassle, creating a smoother journey for visitors. However, there are requirements for the packages. Each booking must include a round-trip flight, accommodation at a hotel rated four stars or above for the entire duration of the stay, and the visa processing fee. The single-entry tourist visa issued is valid for three months and allows for a stay of up to 88 days. This new system complements, but does not replace, other existing visa options like the standard tourist e-Visa or visa-on-arrival for eligible nationalities.
What About Umrah Pilgrimage?
While the Package Visa simplifies general tourism, it's important to understand its relationship with religious travel. The visa itself does not include specific Umrah arrangements or services in Makkah and Madinah. However, once in Saudi Arabia, holders of this tourist visa are permitted to travel anywhere within the Kingdom, including the holy cities, and can perform Umrah. Pilgrims should note that dedicated Umrah platforms like Nusuk have their own processes. As of mid-2026, Indian citizens cannot apply for an Umrah visa directly through the Nusuk platform and must still go through an authorized travel agent in India for dedicated Umrah packages.
Getting Started with Your Trip
For Indian travellers interested in this new, streamlined process, the first step is to visit the websites of accredited travel agencies that offer these integrated packages. As the program is still in its pilot phase, it's wise to check the official Saudi Ministry of Tourism website for the latest list of approved providers. Since the visa is tied directly to the travel package, if the trip is cancelled, the visa will also be revoked. This integrated system represents a major shift, making the prospect of exploring Saudi Arabia's rich culture and diverse landscapes more straightforward than ever before.
