A New Vande Bharat Express
The Railway Board has officially approved the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express connecting Bengaluru and Goa. This semi-high-speed, chair-car service is designed to significantly enhance connectivity between the capital of Karnataka and the popular
coastal state. Operating under train numbers 26655/26656, the service will run from Yesvantpur in Bengaluru to Madgaon in Goa. The introduction of this train provides a much-anticipated faster daytime travel option for passengers on this busy route. While an official launch date is awaited, the service is expected to begin in the third week of November 2026.
Schedule and Timings
The journey from Yesvantpur to Madgaon is slated to take approximately 13 hours and 20 minutes, closely matching the express journey promised. Train number 26655 will depart from Yesvantpur at 7:35 AM and is scheduled to arrive in Madgaon at 8:55 PM the same day. This service will run six days a week, with no service on Wednesdays. For the return journey, train number 26656 will leave Madgaon at 8:20 AM and arrive at Yesvantpur at 9:15 PM, with a slightly shorter travel time of 12 hours and 55 minutes. The return train will operate on all days except Thursdays.
A Scenic Journey Through the Ghats
Beyond its speed, a major highlight of this new service is its route through the picturesque Western Ghats. The train will pass through the stunningly beautiful section between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road, offering passengers breathtaking views of the region's hills and lush green landscapes. The train will make 12 stops at key stations, including Hassan, Sakleshpur, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Murdeshwar, and Karwar, improving connectivity for several coastal and interior towns in Karnataka. This makes the journey itself a part of the holiday experience.
How It Compares to Other Options
Currently, several other trains ply the Bengaluru-Goa route, but most take longer. For instance, the Yesvantpur-Vasco da Gama Express (17309) takes about 13 hours and 40 minutes to 14 hours. Other services can take anywhere from 15 to 17 hours to cover the distance. This new Vande Bharat service, therefore, establishes itself as one of the fastest rail options. Compared to overnight buses, which can take a similar amount of time but often involve navigating traffic-heavy roads, the train offers a more relaxed and comfortable journey, especially with the modern amenities and scenic views characteristic of Vande Bharat services. The daytime schedule also allows travellers to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Konkan coast.
Booking and Onboard Experience
Once the service is officially launched, tickets will be available for booking through the official IRCTC website, the mobile app, and at railway station counters. Fares are yet to be announced but will be in line with other Vande Bharat services, offering options for AC Chair Car and possibly Executive Chair Car classes. Passengers can expect modern, clean coaches with reclining seats, onboard catering services, and large windows to take in the views. As this train is a daytime service, it offers a comfortable alternative to overnight sleeper trains, allowing you to arrive in Goa refreshed and ready to explore.
