What is the New Package Visa?
Saudi Arabia has launched an innovative "Package Visa" initiative designed to simplify the entire travel process for international tourists. For Indian citizens, this means you can now book your flight, reserve your hotel, and secure your tourist e-visa
all at once through a single, approved digital platform. This integrated approach eliminates the need for separate applications and bookings, reducing paperwork and making travel planning much more convenient. The service is currently in a pilot phase, with India being one of the first seven countries eligible for this streamlined process.
How Does the Package Work?
The Package Visa combines several essential travel components into one transaction. Every booking must include a confirmed return flight, accommodation at a Saudi Ministry of Tourism-licensed hotel (with a minimum four-star rating), a tourist visa, and mandatory health insurance. The entire process is digital; you select a package from an accredited travel provider, complete the payment, and then receive your e-visa and all other travel documents via email. The e-visa is typically issued within 48 hours of completing the booking. This removes the need to visit an embassy or consulate for a separate visa application.
Eligibility and Key Conditions for Indians
Indian passport holders are eligible for this new Package Visa. However, there are several conditions to keep in mind. The travel package must be booked through a travel provider approved by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism. The minimum trip duration is two days, with a maximum stay of 88 days permitted under this single-entry visa, which is valid for three months. There is also a minimum package value set by the authorities: packages must cost at least 4,000 Saudi riyals for the first two days, with an additional 1,000 riyals for each extra day. Bookings must be made at least 48 hours before your planned departure.
The Application Process Step-by-Step
Applying for the Package Visa is designed to be straightforward. The first step is to choose a travel agency or digital platform that has been officially accredited by the Saudi government to offer these packages. Once on their platform, you select your travel dates, flights, and a qualifying hotel. You can also add on other experiences like tours and event tickets. You will then complete the digital payment for the entire bundle in one transaction. After the booking is confirmed, the accredited provider handles the visa application on your behalf, and you will receive the electronic visa by email, typically within two days.
Alternative Visa Routes for Indians
While the Package Visa offers new convenience, other visa options for Indian citizens remain available. Indians holding a valid and previously used US, UK, or Schengen visa can still obtain a visa on arrival in Saudi Arabia. This option requires you to travel on a Saudi national carrier. Additionally, standard e-visa applications through authorized portals are another route, although this involves arranging your flights and hotels separately. For visas not covered by the e-visa system, such as work or long-term family visits, applications are typically processed through VFS Tasheer centres, which handle the administrative and biometric collection for the Saudi government.
Exploring the Kingdom
This simplified visa process opens up easier access to Saudi Arabia's diverse landscapes and cultural treasures. From the modern, bustling cities of Riyadh and Jeddah to the ancient historical sites of AlUla, a UNESCO World Heritage site, there is a wealth of destinations to explore. The visa also allows for performing Umrah (outside of the Hajj season), making religious pilgrimages more accessible. The integrated packages can often include tours and activities, allowing travellers to seamlessly plan visits to cultural landmarks, entertainment events, and natural wonders like the Red Sea coast.
