Dubai, a city synonymous with ambition and architectural marvels, is once again capturing global attention. It has announced a new attraction in its historic trading district, one that literally paves the way for a new era of luxury tourism.
The World's First 24-Carat Gold Walkway
The latest
addition to Dubai's long list of superlative attractions is a walkway made from 24-carat gold, set to open before the end of 2026. This project, announced by the Dubai Gold District, is being promoted as the first and longest of its kind in the world. The attraction will offer visitors a unique opportunity to walk along a pathway constructed of pure gold, creating a memorable experience in the heart of the city’s gold trading hub. Rashid Al Harmoodi, a senior director at Dubai Gold District, confirmed that the walkway is scheduled to open within the next two months, positioning it as a key new destination for tourists.
The Heart of the Dubai Gold District
This glittering walkway is the centrepiece of the newly launched Dubai Gold District in Deira, the city's historic commercial heart. The district itself is a major initiative launched in January 2026 to consolidate Dubai's status as a global hub for the gold and jewellery trade. The area gathers over 1,000 retailers, encompassing everything from gold, diamonds, and precious stones to perfumes and lifestyle goods. By centralising retail showrooms, bullion trading, and investment services, the district aims to create an integrated ecosystem for the entire precious metals industry. This strategic consolidation is part of Dubai's wider economic agenda, intended to streamline commerce for global traders and enhance the shopping experience for visitors.
More Than Just a Golden Path
While the gold walkway is the headline attraction, its purpose extends beyond being a photo opportunity. The project is designed to blend tourism with high-value commerce, strengthening Dubai's 'City of Gold' moniker. The Gold District is part of the wider Deira Enrichment Project, which modernises the area while preserving its cultural heritage. This includes adding shaded walkways, hotels, restaurants, and improved transport links to elevate the visitor experience. The announcement of the walkway coincided with another milestone: a pair of traditional Indian jhumka earrings crafted in Dubai securing two Guinness World Records for being the heaviest and largest of their kind. These events highlight the district's role as a centre for both trading and celebrating craftsmanship.
A Golden Future for Tourism and Trade
The introduction of the gold walkway is a strategic move to boost both tourism and trade. Officials expect the attraction to draw a significant number of international visitors and reinforce Dubai's position as a premier luxury destination. The development comes amid strong growth in the district, which has seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new jewellery shops since the start of 2026. Furthermore, there are plans for the district to host the largest gold and jewellery exhibition in the Middle East. By creating such unique attractions, Dubai is not just selling gold; it is selling an unforgettable experience, ensuring its historic trading hub remains a vital and dynamic part of the city's future.
