The Opportunity: Scientist/Engineer 'SC' Roles
ISRO, through its Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB), is inviting applications for the coveted position of Scientist/Engineer 'SC'. This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 92 vacancies across various ISRO centres, including major hubs like Bengaluru,
Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram. The positions are spread across several engineering disciplines, reflecting the diverse technical expertise required to power India's ambitious space program. This hiring initiative is crucial for bolstering the talent pool that will drive future satellite, launch vehicle, and research projects.
Discipline-Wise Vacancies
The recruitment provides opportunities for graduates from a range of core engineering fields. The vacancies are distributed as follows: Electronics leads with 34 positions, followed by Mechanical with 26, and Computer Science with 13. Additionally, there are openings for Civil engineers (10), Electrical engineers (4), Refrigeration & Air Conditioning specialists (2), and Architects (2). This distribution highlights the broad spectrum of skills ISRO needs to maintain its operational excellence and pursue new frontiers in space exploration.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, candidates must possess a B.E. or B.Tech degree in the relevant engineering discipline with a minimum aggregate of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. A key requirement for this recruitment is a valid GATE score from either 2025 or 2026 in the corresponding subject. The age limit for applicants is 28 years as of August 17, 2026, though relaxations may apply for reserved categories as per government norms. It is essential for applicants to ensure their degree was completed within the prescribed duration set by their university.
The Application Process Explained
The application process is entirely online and must be completed through the official ISRO website, isro.gov.in, by the deadline of August 17, 2026. Applicants need to register on the portal with a valid email ID and mobile number, fill out the application form with personal and educational details, and enter their valid GATE score. After submitting the form, candidates will be provided with an online registration number for future reference. An application fee of ₹250 is applicable for unreserved category candidates, which can be paid online.
Selection Through GATE Score and Interview
The selection process for these roles does not involve a separate written test. Instead, candidates will be shortlisted for a personal interview based on their GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 scores. ISRO will shortlist candidates in a 1:7 ratio for the interview stage. The final selection will be based on a 50% weightage given to the GATE score and 50% to performance in the technical interview. During the interview, candidates are assessed on their technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and general awareness of their specialisation. This ensures that both strong academic fundamentals and practical aptitude are evaluated before final selection.
