is because our metabolism, hormone secretion, and insulin sensitivity naturally fluctuate over a 24-hour cycle. Aligning our meals with these internal rhythms could be a powerful tool for better metabolic health, particularly for blood sugar control.
Your Body's Daily Rhythm
Think of your body as a finely tuned orchestra that performs best when it follows a schedule. In the morning, your body is primed for activity. Insulin sensitivity is at its peak, meaning your cells are highly responsive to insulin, the hormone that shuttles glucose from your blood into cells for energy. Practical Steps for Better Timing
Adopting chrononutrition principles doesn't require a radical overhaul of your life. Start with small, manageable adjustments. Try to establish a consistent eating window, for instance from 8 AM to 7 PM. Aim to have your dinner at least two to three hours before you go to sleep to give your body ample time to digest. If you must eat late, opt for a smaller meal that is lower in refined carbohydrates and higher in protein and healthy fats. Another effective strategy is managing the order of your food. Studies have found that eating vegetables and protein before carbohydrates in a meal can significantly blunt the subsequent blood sugar spike. This simple trick helps slow down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream.
