Why the Sudden Rush?
The extension of these services is a direct measure to manage the significant surge in passenger traffic. This period, running through the summer and monsoon seasons, typically sees a high volume of travellers due to school holidays, seasonal weddings,
and people commuting between their hometowns and workplaces. Indian Railways had anticipated this and planned a massive deployment of special services nationwide, with Central Railway being a key operator in this initiative. The current extensions specifically target routes experiencing heavy demand, particularly those connecting Maharashtra with states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, aiming to reduce waiting lists and provide more confirmed travel options for the public.
Daily Services: The Pune-Danapur Lifeline
A major part of this extension involves 150 daily special train services. The most prominent among these is the heavily frequented Pune-Danapur route. Train No. 01449, the Pune-Danapur Daily Special, which was previously scheduled to run until July 15, 2026, will now continue its services from July 16 to September 28, 2026. In the return direction, Train No. 01450, the Danapur-Pune Daily Special, will see its run extended from July 18 to September 30, 2026. This ensures a consistent daily travel option for passengers on this busy corridor. Central Railway has confirmed that the coach composition for these trains, which includes a mix of AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, sleeper, and general second-class coaches, will remain unchanged.
Weekly Trains Connecting Key Hubs
In addition to the daily trains, 66 weekly special services have also been extended to cater to passenger demand on specific days. These trains provide crucial connectivity between major commercial and residential hubs. Key weekly extensions include Train No. 04152, running from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai to Kanpur, which will now operate from July 18 to September 26, 2026. The return service, Train No. 04151 from Kanpur to LTT, is also extended. Furthermore, two weekly services connecting Hadapsar near Pune with Jhansi have been extended. Train No. 01921/01922 and Train No. 01923/01924 will now run until late September and early October 2026, providing vital links for passengers travelling to and from the Bundelkhand region.
Booking and Travel Information
Central Railway has made it clear that while the operational period of these trains is extended, there will be no alterations to their timings, routes, or scheduled stops. Passengers can continue to plan their journeys based on the existing timetables. Bookings for the extended trips of several key trains, including the Pune-Danapur and LTT-Kanpur services, opened on July 5, 2026. Tickets can be reserved through all computerised reservation centres and on the official IRCTC website. For those planning to travel in unreserved general second-class coaches, tickets can be purchased at station counters via the UTS mobile app and automatic ticket vending machines at standard fares.
