Understanding the 'Glow'
Before we talk about how to get it, let's define what that 'glow' really is. In dermatological terms, glowing skin is simply healthy skin. It has a smooth surface that reflects light evenly. This happens when your skin barrier—the outermost layer—is intact,

A diet rich in antioxidants, found in colourful fruits and vegetables, helps protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamins C and E are particularly important; Vitamin C supports collagen production for firmness, while Vitamin E helps with skin repair. Healthy fats, such as the omega-3s found in fish, walnuts, and flaxseed, are essential for maintaining the skin's natural oil barrier, which keeps skin hydrated and supple. Conversely, diets high in processed foods and sugar have been linked to inflammation and can accelerate skin aging.
The Non-Negotiable: Sun Protection
If you do only one thing for your skin, let it be wearing sunscreen. Daily sun protection is the most effective way to prevent premature aging and maintain skin health. UV radiation from the sun breaks down collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and youthful, leading to wrinkles and sagging. Sun exposure is also a primary cause of uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation (dark spots). Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day—even on cloudy days or when you're indoors near a window—is essential to protect your skin's integrity and preserve its natural glow.
Build a Simple, Consistent Routine
You don't need a complicated, multi-step regimen to have healthy skin. The best routine is one you can stick to consistently. The foundational steps are cleansing, moisturising, and sun protection. Start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser morning and night to remove dirt and impurities without stripping the skin's natural oils. Follow with a moisturiser suited to your skin type to hydrate and support the skin barrier. In the morning, the final and most critical step is applying sunscreen. These simple habits, performed daily, create the foundation for strong, healthy, and radiant skin.
