Saudi Arabia has introduced an innovative visa service called the "Package Visa" designed to simplify travel for tourists from several countries, including India. This new route directly integrates the electronic tourist visa (e-visa) application with
the purchase of a complete travel package from an approved provider. This is a significant change from previous options, as it removes the requirement for Indian citizens to hold a pre-existing US, UK, or Schengen visa to gain easy electronic access. The initiative, led by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism, makes the process of planning and booking a trip a single, integrated step. It is aimed at travellers who book a package that includes flights and accommodation, providing them with an instant e-visa upon completion of the booking.
How the New Process Works
The new system is designed for simplicity and efficiency. Prospective travellers from India can now secure their visa through a five-step digital process. First, you select a ready-made or customized travel package from one of the accredited online travel platforms, such as Almosafer, Webook, or Reserval. These packages must meet certain criteria, including a confirmed round-trip flight and accommodation in a Ministry of Tourism-licensed hotel rated four stars or higher. After choosing a package, you upload your passport details and a personal photograph. The next step is to complete the booking and payment securely through the platform. An automated system then verifies your eligibility and submitted information. Once approved, you receive your e-visa electronically, often within 24 to 48 hours, sent directly to your email.
Key Requirements and Eligibility
This new route is specifically for passport holders from India and six other designated countries. A key condition is the purchase of a qualifying travel package. The package must have a minimum value, currently set at SAR 4,000 (approximately ₹90,000) for the first two days, with an additional minimum spend for each subsequent day. The visa and mandatory health insurance fee is around SAR 402 (approximately ₹9,000). The trip duration must be between two and 88 days, and bookings need to be made at least 48 hours before departure. This pathway is ideal for individuals, families, or small groups, as a single application can cover up to nine adults and five minors. It allows for tourism, attending events, and performing Umrah (outside of the Hajj season).
