What is the Visa Waiver Initiative?
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot program specifically aimed at making travel from India more accessible. Under this scheme, the government authority will cover the full cost of a UAE entry visa for
Indian tourists who book a qualifying holiday package. It is important to note this is not a blanket visa-free entry policy for all Indian citizens; it is a targeted tourism promotion that covers the visa fee, which is approximately AED 285 (around ₹6,900), for eligible bookings. The initiative is set to run for a limited period and has a cap on the number of visas it will support, making early planning advisable.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Visa?
To qualify for this cost-saving offer, Indian tourists must meet several specific conditions. First, you must be an Indian passport holder travelling from India. The core requirement is the booking of a complete holiday package through a participating travel partner. This package must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel, along with a confirmed return flight to India. The offer cannot be claimed for independent visa applications or for bookings that only include a flight or hotel separately. All Indian passport holders who meet these package requirements are eligible to apply.
Key Dates and How to Apply
This pilot program is valid for a specific three-month travel window. To be eligible, your travel to Abu Dhabi must take place between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. This means your entire trip must be completed within this period; you cannot book by the deadline for travel in a later month. The application process is handled entirely by the travel agency through which you book your package. You do not apply for the visa independently. Simply choose one of the approved travel partners, book your qualifying package (3+ nights hotel and return flight), and submit your documents to the agent, who will then process the visa with the fee covered by DCT Abu Dhabi.
Finding a Participating Travel Partner
The success of your application hinges on booking through an officially approved channel. DCT Abu Dhabi has partnered with several leading travel companies in India to facilitate this promotion. Some of the major names include MakeMyTrip, Thomas Cook & SOTC, Akbar Travels, Thrillophilia, and Kesari Tours, among others. Before finalising your plans, it is crucial to confirm with your chosen travel agent that they are part of this specific Abu Dhabi visa waiver program. Since the initiative is a pilot scheme limited to 20,000 visas, availability should also be confirmed at the time of booking.
Making the Most of Your Abu Dhabi Trip
With the visa cost covered, you can allocate more of your budget to exploring Abu Dhabi's incredible attractions. A three-day itinerary offers just enough time to experience the city's highlights. A visit to the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must for its breathtaking architecture. For art and culture enthusiasts, the Louvre Abu Dhabi presents a world-class collection in a stunning setting. Thrill-seekers can head to Yas Island, home to Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, and the Yas Marina Circuit. For a more traditional experience, wander through the dates market or enjoy the waterfront views along the Corniche. This visa waiver makes it easier than ever to discover the unique blend of culture, luxury, and adventure that Abu Dhabi offers.
Important Things to Remember
While the offer is straightforward, it is essential to remember the key details. The waiver only covers the UAE entry visa fee; all other costs like flights, accommodation, and expenses in Abu Dhabi are to be paid by the traveller. This program is designed to promote tourism specifically to Abu Dhabi, hence the requirement for a minimum three-night stay in the emirate. The visa provided is a standard tourist visa, and all travellers must adhere to the UAE's immigration laws. Because the program is limited to 20,000 visas, the offer is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so booking your trip sooner rather than later is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
