In 2026, over 100,000 students registered for a chance to be one of the 456 participants.
Beyond YUVIKA: Internships and Projects
For older students in college and university, ISRO offers more direct engagement through internships and project trainee schemes. These opportunities are available to undergraduate, postgraduate, and even PhD students in relevant science and technology fields. The Internship Scheme is a short-term program (up to 45 days) for hands-on experience, while the Student Project Trainee Scheme allows for longer-term academic projects. These positions are unpaid and accommodation isn't guaranteed, but they provide invaluable experience working on real projects under the mentorship of top scientists. Learning from Anywhere
You don't have to be at an ISRO facility to start learning. The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a unit of ISRO, offers a wide range of free online courses through its outreach programme. These courses cover topics like remote sensing, geospatial technologies, and their applications. ISRO also maintains the Jigyasa STEM portal, which provides e-learning courses, interactive sessions with scientists, and other educational resources. Additionally, ISRO encourages student participation through initiatives like the Student Satellite Programme, which provides mentorship and launch opportunities for satellites built by university teams.
Building a Career in Space
A career at ISRO or in India's growing space sector begins with a strong academic foundation. The journey typically starts by choosing the science stream (PCM) in Class 11 and 12. This is followed by pursuing an undergraduate degree (like a B.E. or B.Tech) in fields such as mechanical, electronics, computer science, or aerospace engineering. For more research-oriented roles, a BSc followed by an MSc in subjects like Physics or Mathematics can be the right path. Recruitment is generally done through the ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB), which conducts written tests and interviews for eligible candidates.
