A New Chapter in Regional Connectivity
The Indian Railways has approved the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service connecting Surat, the Diamond City, with Udaipur, the City of Lakes. This move provides the first-ever Vande Bharat service originating from Surat and establishes
a much-anticipated premium train link between South Gujarat and Southern Rajasthan. The service, operated by Western Railway, is expected to be a significant boon for tourism, trade, and regular commuters by offering a faster and more modern travel alternative to existing road and rail options. The road journey alone can typically take eight to nine hours. This new train replaces the previous Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express, extending the high-speed connection directly to Surat.
Timings and Schedule
The Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express is scheduled to run six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. The train designated as number 26903 will depart from Surat at 6:10 AM and is scheduled to arrive at Udaipur City station at 1:40 PM the same day. For the return journey, train number 26904 will depart from Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. This schedule facilitates a comfortable day-long journey, covering a distance of approximately 690 kilometres in about seven and a half hours.
Key Stops Along the Route
The train is slated to have nine commercial stops between Surat and Udaipur, enhancing connectivity for several key towns and cities. The designated stops are Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar. These halts provide crucial links for passengers across Gujarat and into the southern part of Rajasthan, making the service accessible to a wider population. Watering for the train will be done at Vadodara and Asarva, with primary maintenance handled at the new facility in Surat.

As a Vande Bharat service, the train features an 8-car composition with modern amenities designed for passenger comfort. These semi-high-speed trains are known for their spacious, airline-style seating, large windows for better viewing, and on-board catering services.
