A New Gateway to the Kingdom
Saudi Arabia has introduced an innovative "Package Visa" system designed to streamline the travel process for tourists from select countries, including India. This initiative bundles the tourist e-visa application with the booking of flights and accommodation,
creating a one-stop-shop for trip planning. The entire process is digital, eliminating the need for embassy visits and extensive paperwork. Launched as a pilot program, this route is specifically designed to make the Kingdom more accessible to a broader range of international visitors. The system integrates visa issuance directly into the process of booking a holiday, a significant shift from traditional application methods.
How the Package Visa System Works
The process is designed for convenience. Travellers begin by selecting an approved travel provider or platform, such as Webook, Almosafer, or Reserval, which are licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism. From there, you can either choose a pre-designed holiday package or customize your own itinerary. The key is that the booking must include both your flights and your hotel stay. After selecting your package, you upload your passport details and a personal photograph directly onto the platform. Once you complete the payment, your information undergoes an automated verification process. If all criteria are met, the electronic tourist visa is issued and sent to your email, often within 24 to 48 hours. This seamless flow means your visa is tied directly to your confirmed travel plans.
Key Requirements for Your Trip
While the process is simplified, there are specific conditions that travellers must meet. The travel package must include a confirmed return flight and accommodation at a hotel with a minimum four-star rating. The duration of the stay must be between two and 88 days, and the entire package must be booked at least 48 hours before your departure date. There is also a minimum package value, which starts at around 4,000 Saudi riyals for the first two days of your trip. The visa fee itself, approximately SAR 402, includes mandatory health insurance for the duration of your stay. This structure ensures that travellers are booking a complete, verified tourism experience. A single application can even accommodate small groups, with provisions for up to nine adults and five minors in one booking.
The Main Advantage for Indian Passport Holders
The significance of the Package Visa lies in the new pathway it creates for Indian citizens. Previously, easier access to a Saudi tourist visa for Indians was often dependent on already holding a valid and used visa from the US, UK, or Schengen area. This new system removes that dependency entirely. Eligibility for the Package Visa is based on booking a qualifying travel package, not on your prior travel history to other specific countries. This opens up the possibility of tourism in Saudi Arabia to a much larger group of Indian travellers who may not have had Western visas. It democratises access, making the country's rich cultural heritage, modern cities, and stunning landscapes available to all who wish to explore them through this route.
Planning Your Saudi Arabian Adventure
With the visa logistics simplified, travellers can focus more on the exciting aspects of their trip. The integrated booking platforms allow you to add various activities and experiences to your itinerary, from exploring ancient historical sites like Al-Ula to experiencing the vibrant city life of Riyadh and Jeddah. You can book tickets for concerts and events, arrange sightseeing tours, and plan adventure activities all within the same package. The tourist e-visa issued through this program can be used for tourism-related activities, leisure, visiting family, and even performing Umrah (though it is not valid for the Hajj pilgrimage). By bundling everything together, the system encourages visitors to explore the diverse offerings of the Kingdom beyond just the main cities.
