If there's one non-negotiable part of recovery, it's sleep. Sleep is the most effective tool your body has for repair. Fueling the Repair Process

Consuming between 20-40 grams of protein within a couple of hours after a workout can help maximise the muscle repair process. Carbohydrates are just as important. They replenish the glycogen your muscles used for energy during the workout. Refilling these stores ensures you have the fuel you need for your next session. Combining protein and carbs in a post-workout meal or snack—like Greek yogurt with fruit or chocolate milk—provides the ideal one-two punch for effective recovery.
Active Recovery and Smart Breaks
Recovery doesn't always mean lying on the couch. Active recovery, which involves low-intensity movement like walking, swimming, or gentle yoga, can be highly beneficial on your days off. This light activity increases blood flow to the muscles, which helps deliver nutrients and clear out metabolic waste products that contribute to soreness. It helps reduce stiffness without putting significant strain on your body. Beyond single rest days, it's also smart to plan for strategic breaks in your training schedule. A 'deload week' is a planned period of reduced training volume and intensity, typically done every 4 to 8 weeks. This isn't a week off, but rather a week to ease up, allowing your central nervous system and joints to fully recover from accumulated fatigue.
