The Ultimate High-Protein Power Duo
In the world of quick vegetarian cooking, sprouts and paneer are superstars. Sprouts, especially from moong dal, are packed with vitamins and fibre, and the sprouting process makes their protein more easily digestible. A single bowl of moong sprouts can
offer around 6-7 grams of protein, making it a light yet filling option. Paneer, or Indian cottage cheese, is a heavyweight, providing a complete protein with all essential amino acids necessary for muscle repair and growth. A 100-gram serving of paneer contains roughly 18-20 grams of protein, making it exceptionally satisfying and great for post-workout recovery. Together, these two dishes offer a fantastic one-two punch of plant-based and dairy protein that can fit into the busiest of schedules.
Recipe 1: 10-Minute High-Protein Sprouts Chaat
This no-cook or minimal-cook chaat is refreshing, crunchy, and incredibly fast. If you have sprouted moong ready, it comes together in minutes. For a quick version, you can lightly steam the sprouts for 2-3 minutes to soften them, or simply use them raw. Ingredients: 2 cups moong sprouts, steamed or raw 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 small tomato, finely chopped 1 small cucumber, finely chopped (optional) 1 green chilli, finely chopped 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder Black salt (kala namak) and regular salt to taste Juice of half a lemon A handful of fresh coriander, chopped Optional for extra crunch & protein: 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts or crumbled paneer Instructions: In a large bowl, combine the sprouts, chopped onion, tomato, and cucumber. Sprinkle over the chaat masala, cumin powder, black salt, and regular salt. Squeeze the lemon juice over the top and add the chopped coriander. Toss everything together gently until well combined. For added texture and flavour, mix in roasted peanuts or pomegranate seeds just before serving. Your chaat is ready to be served immediately.
Recipe 2: 10-Minute Paneer Bhurji (Scrambled Paneer)
Paneer Bhurji is a versatile and savoury dish that pairs perfectly with roti, paratha, or even toast. The key to making it in 10 minutes is having your ingredients chopped and ready to go. Ingredients: 200 grams paneer, crumbled 1 tablespoon oil or ghee 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera) 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste 1 medium tomato, finely chopped 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi) 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon garam masala Salt to taste 2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped Instructions: Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute. Add the chopped tomatoes, salt, and all the spice powders (turmeric, red chilli, and garam masala). Cook the masala for 2-3 minutes, until the tomatoes soften and the oil begins to separate from the mixture. Add the crumbled paneer to the pan. Mix gently to combine everything and cook for just 2-3 minutes. Overcooking can make the paneer chewy. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
Tips To Truly Make It In 10 Minutes
The "10 minutes flat" promise is achievable with a bit of preparation. The active cooking time for each dish is indeed short, but efficiency is key. 1. Prep Ahead: Chop your onions, tomatoes, and other vegetables in advance. You can store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Using a food processor can speed this up significantly. 2. Use Ready-Made Sprouts: While sprouting at home is cost-effective, buying ready-made sprouts saves you 1-2 days of prep time. 3. Soften Your Paneer: If using store-bought paneer that feels firm, soaking the block in hot water for 15-20 minutes before crumbling makes it much softer and better tasting. 4. Organize Your Spices: Keep a small masala dabba (spice box) with your most-used spices like cumin seeds, turmeric, and chilli powder. This avoids the need to search for and open multiple containers while cooking. 5. Use a Base Gravy: For an even faster bhurji, you can prepare a large batch of onion-tomato masala and freeze it. Using a few tablespoons of this pre-made base can cut the cooking time in half.
