in Haridwar and Rishikesh are so critical. From late June to early July 2026, auditors travelled over 290 kilometres and conducted walk-tests at crowded hotspots like Har Ki Pauri and Triveni Ghat to measure real-world performance. The Undisputed King of Speed: Reliance Jio
When it comes to raw data speed, Reliance Jio is the clear winner in the Haridwar-Rishikesh corridor. TRAI's tests clocked Jio's 5G network delivering an average download speed of a staggering 205.57 Mbps. This is significantly faster than its competitors and makes Jio the go-to choice for anyone prioritising fast downloads, buffer-free video streaming, or seamless social media uploads. For the modern tourist or pilgrim wanting to share their experience in high definition, Jio’s network provides the necessary horsepower. While its call performance was solid with only two dropped calls in the test, its main strength in this region is its dominant data delivery.
The Voice Champion: Airtel's Reliability
While Jio won the speed race, Airtel demonstrated strong performance in other crucial areas. Its 5G download speed was a respectable 128.99 Mbps, but its real advantage was in upload speeds, where it narrowly beat Jio with an average of 24.54 Mbps. This is a key metric for content creators, remote workers, and anyone needing to send large files. Furthermore, Airtel showed excellent call quality, recording the fewest instances of 'call silence' (awkward pauses where you can't hear the other person) among the private operators. This combination of good data speeds and superior call stability makes Airtel a well-rounded and reliable choice for users who need a network that does everything well.
A Surprising Win for Vi: The Most Stable Voice Calls
Vodafone Idea (Vi) presented a mixed but interesting picture. While its average 5G download speed of 58.46 Mbps was well behind Jio and Airtel, it excelled in a critical, often-overlooked metric: call reliability. Remarkably, Vi was the only operator to record zero dropped calls during the entire test period out of 451 successful calls. It also had the best signal coverage, with the fewest instances of poor signal samples recorded. For a user whose primary concern is making and receiving voice calls without interruption — a crucial need in both emergencies and everyday communication — Vi showed surprising resilience and emerged as the most dependable choice for voice connectivity in the area.
The Lagging Performer: BSNL's 4G Challenge
The government-owned operator, BSNL, struggled to keep pace with its private counterparts in this audit. Tested on its 4G network, BSNL recorded an average download speed of just 7.96 Mbps and an upload speed of 4.11 Mbps, figures that are worlds apart from the 5G speeds offered by others. Its voice performance was also the weakest, with the highest number of dropped calls (13) and the most significant signal coverage gaps. While BSNL often provides essential connectivity in areas where private operators don't venture, in a competitive urban and tourist environment like Haridwar-Rishikesh, its network performance was found to be significantly behind.
